EXECUTABLES

Users communities produce executables for their respective platforms.

These executables are then added to the download section on SourceForge at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/hugin/files/hugin/

A number of users have built recent snapshots and executables are likely to be
announced within a few days of this tarball release.

CHANGES SINCE 2012.0.0

* The greatest change is the redesign of the (Graphical) User Interface (GUI). The user interface now consists of three modes: Simple, Advanced and Expert.
The Simple interface is for the beginning panorama photographer and offers all tools to create your panorama. You can also use this mode if you have a simple, straightforward panorama. The Simple interface mode uses the "Fast Preview"  window as its main workflow window.
The Advanced interface mode offers you more options to improve your panorama. It uses the Panorama Editor as its main window.
The Expert mode gives you access to all options and functions that Hugin has to offer. This is where you can optimize your complicated, multilayer, mosaic, multi-stack, you name it, panorama. It also uses the Panorama Editor as its main window.

* The Hugin build for Mac OS X has switched from Carbon to Cocoa and is now fully 64bit.

New tools added:
* pto_var ( change image variables inside pto files)
* pto_lensstack (modify assigned lenses and stack in pto files)
* geocpset  (set/add geometric constraints for multirow panorama with featureless images)

Other Improvements
* Many more improvements and bug fixes.

UPGRADING

Upgrading from previous versions of Hugin should be seamless. If you do have
problems with old settings, these can be reset in the Preferences by clicking
'Load defaults'.

It is strongly recommeded to set the default control point detector to
Hugin's CPFind.  It is the only control point generator endorsed by Hugin.
Third-party generators may be compatible with the plug-in architecture.

COMPILING

Users compiling from source refer to the dependencies listed at
http://wiki.panotools.org/Development_of_Open_Source_tools#Dependencies

and the build processes listed at
http://wiki.panotools.org/Development_of_Open_Source_tools#Build_your_Own_Test_Builds

More information in the README and INSTALL_cmake files in the tarball.

KNOWN ISSUES AND WORKAROUNDS

There is a known problem building Hugin with CMake 2.8.5rc2.
Workaround: Upgrade to a newer CMake version.

Mac OS X:
- Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) is no longer supported.
- The PPC platform is no longer supported.
- The OpenMP enabled enblend is now compatible on Mac OS X Lion (10.7).
- The cmake compilation of Hugin is currently broken due to the fact that
the boost library on OS X is currently at version 1.50 and boost versions => 1.48
conflict with a number of Mac OS X macros (from AssertMacros.h). This can
not be disabled as WxWindows for Mac (a.k.a. WxMac) needs these macros.

An updated list of issues deemed to be critical, including discussions
and workarounds is in the issue tracker.

THANKS

Thanks to all the contributors to this release and members of the hugin-ptx
mailing list, too many to mention here.

Hugin can be found at http://hugin.sourceforge.net/ and at https://launchpad.net/hugin

Hi Hugin enthusiasts

You can find hugin 2013.0.0 versions for Ubuntu "Saucy Salamander"
(13.10), "Raring Ringtail" (13.04), "Quantal Quetzal" (12.10), "Precise
Pangolin" (12.04 LTS) and "Lucid Lynx" (10.04 LTS) in the "latest Hugin
builds" ppa at https://launchpad.net/~hugin/+archive/hugin-builds. For
lucid users, please be aware of the fact that the new pto_var command
line utility is missing in this version because it depends on the 1.41
boost libraries which have not been backported to lucid.

Please also note that users "subscribed" to the "next Hugin builds" at
https://launchpad.net/~hugin/+archive/next will not automatically get
updates to the stable release unless you have the "latest Hugin builds"
ppa in your sources.list, too.

If you encounter any problems with these versions, please send your
questions to hugi...@googlegroups.com

As usual, I want to thank all the developers, the translators, the
supporters and anyone else who has contributed to Hugin for this
exceptional application.

With kind regards

Stefan Peter

Just updated via ppa on mint 14.

It is still impossible to sticht images in /tmp (a bug i wrote about long time ago, https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/hugin-ptx/$2Ftmp/hugin-ptx/ktlQKFtORbk/eEisFdhx1MMJ )

Also i feel quite disoriented with the new gui, i have seen the tutorial @ http://hugin.sourceforge.net/tutorials/new-gui/en.shtml but it covers only basic usage. Is there a more detailed explanation?

Thank you.

* First, the mailing list is not the right place for bug tracking. Bugs can easily go lost in the mailing list. Report bugs to http://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin/
* Second, with your description in the past I could not reproduce the issue and therefore not fix the bug.
* Third, it is fixed in the default branch (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin/+bug/1227813). The fix is not yet included in the release.

Also i feel quite disoriented with the new gui, i have seen the tutorial @ http://hugin.sourceforge.net/tutorials/new-gui/en.shtml but it covers only basic usage. Is there a more detailed explanation?

Read in the help. There is all described.

Hello,

Sorry for the last post, but MacOSX binaries are now available here :

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hugin/files/hugin/hugin-2013.0/Hugin-2013.0.0.dmg/download

They have been tested to run on MacOSX 10.6, 10.8 and 10.9; they are 64bit-only binaries.
Python scripting is available.

Cheers,

Matthieu.

Hi,

I want to thank all those who contributed to this 2013.0.0 release.
A special thanks to the builders of the binaries and to builders of the packages for the several linux and BSD distributions.

I just updated the hugin.sourceforge website to reflect the state of the new Hugin release.
The current wiki already reflects the 2013 state but is here and there a mix of 2012 and 2013. I will try to separate that better. As soon as all linux distributions contain the 2013 build by default we should remove the 2012 parts as they are also inside the source tar.bz2 and the binaries/packages.

For those who want to translate the release notes in their native language I append the en.shtml to this mail. Just save it in your ISO-2 language code like de.shtml, fr.shtml (for example). A lot can be copy&pasted from the 2012 sections.
If you are familiar with the hugin-web hg repository you can upload it yourself. Otherwise just send it to me.

Ciao Matthieu.
Thanks for providing a recent build for OS X.
I did a quick test on OS X 10.9 (13A603) and it seems to work as expected, see [1] and [2].

Attached is a Danish translation of the release notes.

While translating I stumbled upon a couple of places in the English
notes that I need to suggest on:

Users communities -> User communities

modify assigned lenses and stack in pto files
"stacks"?

The OpenMP enabled enblend is now compatible on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and newer.
"compatible with"?

hej Thomas,

mange tak for oversættelsen.

Det er lang tid siden jeg talte dansk.

I fully agree with your improvements for the english release note. I did read it a couple of times but at a certain moment you get blind for the details.
I uploaded it to the website. Sorry for the slight delay.

Hugin 2013.0.0 and enblend 4.1.2 are in the imminent Fedora 20 release (beta installers out today!), for i386, x86_64 and arm64.

I haven't yet updated the panorama Fedora rpm repository, but the most recent Hugin snapshot there should be identical. Note to anyone subscribed to this repository, it will soon switch to following development snapshots.

Hi Matthieu,

sorry that it took me so long to stumble over an issue with the release for OS X... In the last weeks I had used both the 3013.0.0-rc as well as the old 2012.0 version.

The current default download for OS X will (at least on my Mac) always start using the english version while both other versions I mentioned start in my system's default language (DE). Is it possible that the de.pto is missing in the current build? Are other language versions affected as well?

I just looked into Hugin.app/Contents/Resources/de.lproj/locale/hugin.mo
and it seems to include all necessary (German) strings.

Strange. Anything else I could check?

The earlier "2013.0.0-rc1 built by Matthieu DESILE" works ok for me.

Comments:

The bit of the picture I saw in QupZilla looked nice, but zooming or
moving around in that browser didn't work.

Tried again in Firefox 25 running the most recent Flash for Linux, and
got a page saying that the Adobe Flash plugin crashed. Reloading the
page as instructed seems to be trying to show the image, but it just
crashed Flash again.

Finally, 360cities.net seems incredibly slow on my little old computer.

I look forward to the demise of Flash, but HTML5 isn't much faster on my
machine. I think I prefer the "old days" of sticking an image in a div
and specifying the appropriate scroll attribute ...

True, Flash can be a real pain and panoramic content is a good way to
test a computer. On older machines it sometimes helps to navigate with
the arrow keys (and ctrl / shift for zooming) instead of dragging the
mouse which is sometimes unresponsive. Did you try that?

I didn't have the chance so far to test QupZilla, as a webkit browser it
may be comparable with Safari. With Safari I see a big difference with
the older version that came with OS X 10.6 and the current one on a 10.8
partition on the same computer.

The last time my Firefox behaved strange when viewing panoramas I closed
other tabs and also restarted the program. I'm not sure how Flash and
Firefox manage memory consumption these days but that seemed to help.

When you talk about "the old days" don't forget that content was usually
smaller in overall pixel size. A typical PTViewer window was so much
smaller back then (in 2001):
http://einem.net/showroom/Beispiele/JAVA/vr_friedensengel.htm
the JPG is 1400 x 700 pixels, see
http://einem.net/showroom/Beispiele/JAVA/vr_friedensengel.jpg

Here is an even older QTVR tour if you have a way to display QuickTime
VR content:
<http://einem.net/showroom/Referenzen/Panorama_QTVR/1996_Marlboro-Reisen_CD-ROM/tour_AntelopeCanyon.mov>
That's a project from way back in 1996 showing the Antelope Canyon
(Arizona).

Cheers,
Carl

Didn't try it. On both browsers, the default part of the picture that is
displayed never completed downloading (was still seeing the blurred
version, although some segments of the image had become sharp and detailed.

Not sure which version those might be. It had 1.8.1-4 on it, installed
from Debian Sid. Upgrading to 2.2.1-2 just now, the zooming and moving
around works. Still very slow. All of the default picture view
downloaded. And once I started to zoom in using the keyboard, it didn't
stop until it reached maximum zoom.

In both tests, there was only the one tab and each had been started fresh.

What is this PTViewer you refer to? ;-) This old tech way of doing things:

Hmm, will have to check that out. Don't recall if I have anything here
that can display QuickTime, but it probably do ...

I do see the problem here as well.

I will dig into the problem, but from what I see, the primary language is reported well by the DEBUG_TRACE on lines 262-264 of huginApp.cpp

Just checked on my old macbook and I can confirm this bug. Hugin starts in english and I can't even change it.
I checked the bundle and everything seems to be OK. Obviously it isn't "but it can't be seen from the outside".

Don't understand.

File->Preferences->General->User Interface->Language

Then restart hugin.

Is it different on MAC?

Yes, it is different on Mac. On Mac OS X all applications function in the system language.

For that reason the language can't be changed inside Hugin, nor in any OS X application that follows the design rules, as it complies to the system language.
The system language on my mac is Dutch (and for Carl German I presume), and hugin should also default to the system language. Somehow this is not correctly picked up at the moment.
It's a special _ifdef _Mac_ in the source code. Ipei Ukai built it in long time ago and I once "touched" it too, but that was long time ago.
