Hi fellow people into stars and such,

I need a machinist for a small job. It's an adapter threaded M68.8
with .75mm pitch on one side and a smooth 60mm (59.8mm ?) diameter on
the other side. I can send more measurements and a drawing, of course.

I would buy the material, Aluminum, and send it to you, and I have the
mating M68.8mm threaded part to get that thread right.

Can anyone local help? I can't really afford to pay "real machinist"
rates, I think, but I would be paying $120 for the labor for it. Does
that sound reasonable?

I did look into Precise Parts, but this does not connect common
astro-parts, so could not order it.

Thanks!

Alin

I had some custom work performed by

joseph burroughs workshif...@gmail.com

Alin,
About 1 year ago, I was looking for a machinist to fabricate a focuser end bell with flanges for my existing focuser to new tube transition for my 6 inch refractor telescope tube.  These days, it is not like it used to be with many machine shops no longer open, for the remaining shops now have business models operating against making a digital model for the computer controlled machining center to function. Custom piece work is tough.
After much looking, in which I produced a precise drawing of what I wanted, I located Mr. Burroughs,  and after some discussion, he produced the part exactly to my drawing, a good outcome, As he can purchase the aluminum at rates lower than you can it is not likely you will save any money going that way.  I received quotes from 5 sources, glad with the results.
I suggest you contact him, let him know of your needs, send him a drawing and if the part needs to mate with other parts consider sending him the other parts as well.
He might remember the work he did for me.  Let him know I sent you his way.

Hope this works out for you, all the very best

Clear skys
