Hello,
I had this problem last week: the Horos database had disappeared. I searched my drives for it but could not recover anything (I had changed external drive  where the database was and it may have been lost when transferring the content of the old drive to the new). So I just reconstructed my database from all my CD's....

I just wonder whether there is a way to automatically keep an up-to-date back-up of the database.

Thanks,

Alain

Hello,

I am also curious if there are any solutions for backing up the database.

I’ve had a very similar experience. Horos ‘froze’ and when I restarted it the database had completely disappeared.

Hi Jason -

Sorry about your issue on the Horos Database.  I thought I would comment on a couple of items:
1) Databases in Horos are not necessarily lost.  Often this is a configuration issue that points incorrectly.  Our services team sometimes can recover these, assuming nothing detrimental occurred.
2) We offer a “Purview” option that enables you to store images in the cloud rather than locally.  This is often a more resilient solution than what Horos offers itself.

Let me know if we can try to help with either.  I can directly you to our services or sales team to try to provide a alternative solution.

Les

As the database is basically just a folder with files specified by the location in the Horos preferences, you can use Time Machine or third-party software like Carbon Cloner (Mac Backup Software | Carbon Copy Cloner | Bombich Software) to automate backing up your Horos database.

This is especially helpful to resolve application startup crashes (see https://groups.google.com/g/horos-project/c/hlqkXx_J0t8/m/hiT_Mr0CAQAJ).
