Hello,
I'm in the process of learning CW and have a question about connecting paddles. I did a search but didn't find the answer I was looking for. Can paddles with TRS (Dit/Dah) work using the PTT/Key input or is that only for straight keys and Mic PTT? I thought I'd ask before just plugging it in.
Thanks in advance for any advise.

I just built a keyer for my HL2 so this is all fresh for me! The jack is configured as Tip=Dot/Key, Ring=Dash/PTT, and Sleeve=Ground.
Use a stereo plug even with a straight key. When I tried my straight key with a 3.5mm mono plug it didn't like that. I triggered the PTT.

You know what I said is just fundamentally wrong I guess. The HL2 doesn't have a keyer. The tip=Key. There is no dot. there is no dash. You provide that.

The HL2 has no keyer. If you want to use a paddle, you have to
use an external keyer (say, a WinKey keyer). The Key and PTT outputs
of the keyer then go to the TRS KEY/PTT input jack of the HL2.
It may not be necessary to connect the PTT output of the keyer at all.
