Hi,

I'm the developer of the HL2 support. I was going to post an announcement email here today, but now I don't have to! It would be great if folks can give it a try. Note that the OpenWebRX code was just merged yesterday. Until Jakob releases a new version you'll have to do a manual install to use it. The wiki page that Nigel linked should have the information you need. If you run into problems, I'm happy to answer questions here or on the OpenWebRX list.

Hi Jim,

I didn't mean to steal your thunder - sorry ;-)
I spotted it on the openwebrx group and I know some were interested in it on here, so posted the alert.
I'll try to setup mine in openwebrx in the next few days (I think I still have OWRX on a Pi SD card as I helpd a bit in getting the HackRF setup/configured in OWRX).
If I get issues, I'll post on OWRX as it make the most sense posting in there regarding issues.

Anyway, thanks for your efforts Jim.

Not a problem at all! I'm looking forward to getting feedback from folks trying it out.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for this very pleasant surprise! I hope to try out openwebrx with a Hermes-Lite soon.

Hi Jim,

I did install openwebrx with your HL2 support on my remote station. I was able to access it locally. For external access, I tried to register on receiverbook but it could not detect my radio. I assume I have to open port 8073 for TCP on my sister's router? Also, what are the default filter settings? I want to make sure that the HPF is not disabled as there is quite a bit of low frequency noise at this QTH. Thanks again for your work on this.

Hi

Is there any body who can help me installing Quisk and later
Hermeslite.py on my

windows system. I have installed Python and downloaded  a quisk.whl file
from net

but dont know how to mount or install it, as I am not familiar with
those files types or

Python? All instructions I was reading, failed.

Most of my issues with installing Quisk on Windows 10 came down to path problems.  Be sure to install as administrator and allow the path to be updated.

I replied to Steve by mistake, resending to the list.

On your receiverbook question, I'm not an expert, but I assume you would need to make OpenWebRX internet-accessible by opening up port 8073. If that doesn't work, the folks at https://groups.io/g/openwebrx are pretty helpful.

I haven't done anything to implement filter support yet, so 0x00 [23:17] are all zero and I assume all the filters are disabled. Reading the "Filter Selection" section on the protocol page, it looks like I can use standard mode (manual mode off). Would having a simple rule for filter configuration based on frequency be sufficient for the time being? I could just enable the HPF if the frequency is greater than 3 MHz. Given that OpenWebRX is RX-only, is there any reason to use the HPF? It's not clear to me how I would pass user-specified filter configuration from OpenWebRX to the HL2, but I could work on that in the future.

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately I have to physically be at my sister's house to open the port and that won't be happening soon given the pandemic.

I think all zeros for the filter is okay. The HPF and all LPF will be disengaged for full RX. I need a way to engage the HPF given the noise at my sister's house, but maybe I can do that once with hermeslite.py. Do you continuously send data at address 0x00 to the HL2? That contains the filter select.

Hi Steve,

Why not use Teamviewer to make a connection to a computer at your sisters home? (there is a Teamviewer that's free for non comercial use).
Then you can connect to her router to make the changes required.

Only problem I can see is that you are then remote Tech Support for your sisters home computers !!

Hi Steve,

Because of the watchdog timer, I do send data continuously. Can you see any downside to always engaging the HPF for frequencies higher than 3 MHz? If not, I will go ahead and do that.

I do router configuration remotely using ssh port forwarding to get access to the router web UI. Of course if you mess it up...

Hi Jim,

I think it would be better if you engage the HPF if any frequency is higher than 3MHz. I and I think others often have a lot of AM and other low frequency noise.

My sister's port settings are actually managed by the provider's central server outside of her house. It is the first time I've encountered this. I need to jump through several hoops with several authentications just to open up a port. I did it once before for ssh and port 22. Reception with my home antenna is not really worth sharing.

I have tried install Openwebrx on an RPI3 .. the hpsdrconnector conecting to my HL2 but reporting missing hardware.
I have followed all the instructions in the connector and openwebrx..
Do I need to install it as a superuser ??

The HPF is now engaged for center frequencies above 3 MHz. I'm also using Github Actions to build executables for common platforms (Windows, Linux amd64, Linux ARM/Raspberry Pi and MacOS amd64). I haven't actually tested the Raspberry Pi version, so I'd appreciate feedback on whether it works. You can still build from source if you prefer.

The README describes the new installation procedure: https://github.com/jancona/hpsdrconnector/releases/tag/v0.3.3

Hi Mats,

I'm replying to the list so others can benefit. (Steve, let me know if you'd prefer this kind of thing be kept off-list.)

The "missing hardware" message from OWRX means that it was unable to run the hpsdrconnector executable. If you used "go install" to create the hpsdrconnector executable, by default it places it in $HOME/go/bin, which will only work if OWRX is running as the same user. If it is running as a different user, you need to put the executable in that user's PATH or a system PATH like /usr/local/bin with the proper permissions. The details of doing this depend a bit on which OS you're using. On Linux, something like "sudo cp /home/<your user>/go/bin/hpsdrconnector /usr/local/bin/" should do it.

If you need more help, please let me know which OS you are using and which user OpenWebRX is running as.

Thanks,

Jim N1ADJ

Hi Jim, yeah I see what you mean... (did a little fast typing there)

I can connect to the HL2 with only the hpsdrconnector (with correct switches/parameters)
When I open the webpage (http:/openwebrx), and the web-page reports missing hardware.
The "config_webrx.py" are edited as your instructions.

All was built from source.. I will recheck again and get back.

Thanks

Better "ln -s /home/<your user>/go/bin/hpsdrconnector /usr/local/bin/"
so it is always in step with any later upgrades.

I agree that a symbolic link is a better solution when building from source. I'm now hosting released builds on Github: https://github.com/jancona/hpsdrconnector/releases/latest

Users can download those and either copy them or use a symbolic link to get them into a directory in their PATH.
