Other SDR’s have a „watchdog timer“ built into the firmware, that shuts down the radio if no IP packet arrived for
a second or so. This should be do-able in the HL2 firmware.

Such watchdog is in the HL2 firmware, but it doesn't resolve this type
of problems, because it's the quisk which is sending the packets and the
ethernet connection between the quisk and the HL2 is OK, it's the
internet connection between the client (controlling the quisk remotely)
and the quisk which fails

On a Linux machine (Raspberry Pi, et.al.), one might be able to solve this issue by running a daemon (python script?) on the HL2 connected server that periodically pings the WAN network, VPN, and/or the remote desktop client, and kills quisk (and/or other SDR software) if the control operator's network stops responding for over a minute or whatever.

I am using similar hack. But it doesn't help with issues when the 3rd
party SW crashes, e.g. wsjtx sends PTT ON to quisk, then it crashes for
some reason and quisk will never receive PTT OFF. Well, you can solve it
with more advanced hack - e.g. pinging wsjtx on its listening port and
in case of no response kill -9 wsjtx and quisk, but there are 3rd party
SWs which are more challenging (e.g. no listening port :). Or rather
kill everything in case of no internet connection (to be sure that the
wsjtx is under operator control :). This works, but I think it may
deserve more polished and systematic out-of-the box solution, which I
think the TOT is
