Yet another Christmas Miracle!  Time for the TENTH annual 48 hours of HAXMAS!!!!

What is HAXMAS? Our annual tradition of keeping the lab open for at least 48 straight open hours the weekend before Christmas.  It gives people the opportunity to finish up their last minute gifts before Christmas, and it's a lot of fun.

When will it happen this year?
Starting from Friday the 20th at 10:00am until at least Sunday the 22nd at 10:00 am.

Let me know here if you want to cover any of the available time slots and I'll give you edit access to the spreadsheet.

Also if you're not yet a card holder, it's a great time to help with co-hosting.

Here's a spreadsheet I have so far:

I'm excited for this. Looks like we will get 60+ hours.

Also I'll be sharing supplies to make your own nebula box ornaments. These will reflect whatever color lights are on your tree and always look awesome.

I will need more graham cracker supplies by Saturday. I had one event today and another on Wednesday. Always having to restock.

Pretty sure all the lights are soldered though.

I'll take a picture of what I will bring and send it privately. I didn't make up any LEG boards . . . we used esp32s for 5 of the 6 or 7 houses. One thing I ran out of was powdered sugar. People love their frosting!

Hopefully you have some people signed up . . . if not let me know!

Hi All,
I haven't been to HeatSync Labs yet. Does 3-D Printing require certification or training?

Thanks,

Javier Gardea

Javier,
The FDM printers do not require certification the resin 3D printer does require certification.

There is documentation on our wiki about the 3D printing it is a little out of date since we have swapped out the ender 5s that were running on octo print with printers that function on either clipper or via SD card.

I just want to say thank to all the people that makes this happen every year.
I shared this with my wife today, and she was so surprised and smiley.
She's not super into these things, but today we were doing some vinyl cutting, and appreciated the greatness of having a place open for a whole weekend (we were not at HSL btw, because of travel time and other reasons, like me not knowing how to use the vynil cutter correctly at HSL... anyway)

Thank you guys!! just wanted to say that, and my wife also think you're doing a great job

I suggest we beat it with a new metric next year. Photos of projects. We'll still provide hours of making time. Just also I'll try and get some specific gift ideas to share and encourage more people to come out.

Yeah, that's a good idea but much more difficult to track. I usually share my HAXMAS Miracles and to be honest I'm not sure people care to see them in this form. But I saw alot of making happening while I was there and that includes people building websites as well as a 3D print of their baby's head. Maybe people don't share because we don't encourage it? Or privacy?

Chances are there is some rule I'm breaking by sharing on this mailing list!

Next year maybe we can make a HAXMAS kiosk where people can photograph, the AI can remove the background and animate it, and a short is uploaded to youtube!

I wasn't sure what you meant before, but perhaps some people won't want to share photos until after they give their gifts to avoid spoiling any surprise. Perhaps this isn't what you meant.

Consecutive hours is a lot of work, and I can't help with the late hours. I was hoping to encourage a way to increase engagement without demanding more of our volunteers.

Perhaps not strictly Haxmas related, but one of the cooler things the lab had when I joined but doesn't have now is a working lab 'project' camera (one anyone can grab and snap a picture of their project they would like to share), which would then populate/update the heatsync flickr account with stuff our members was doing which would then cycle through on our main page. This is one thing I have attempted to replace, but every time I get close to a possible solution, I generally get shot down for the poor technical way I've attempted... What has made this difficult is that originally flickr had different API and storage abilities they changed and started charging actual money for, and the second thing is we were using a special wifi SD card called an eyefi, which if my memory serves me was purchased by another company and their products were completely changed and our product was depreciated from any of their cloud services (Both flickr and the eyefi stuff were cloud products that ended up charging money for initially free services, or discontinued service to hardware they had out in the wild). I REALLY miss being able to just do that, show other people what I am working on, and to point people to a page of the current happenings of the lab if they want to know what kind of stuff people make there. It also made our main front hsl frontpage more relevant and dynamic.

That photo / camera idea sounds very nice.
I'll search more info into that

https://groups.google.com/g/heatsynclabs/c/JHn9tMMkgkk/m/YhXCyrplFgAJ The lab camera was def one of the cooler things we had, really helped create excitement, and I miss it greatly. There was a time that the curated images would also show up on a monitor that was set out front for people to see what we were up to. I'd love to see that again!

I did try getting people onboard with doing a replacement or figuring out how to make the old stuff work again, but it's been years.

I’d be happy to share photos of most stuff I made at haxmas, failures included. I really miss that flikr-powered camera setup that would let folks snap pics of what they made to get them on a photo display reel showing what is possible at the lab. Kudos to all who helped make that possible!
Only on cases where it’s a gift for someone who goes to the lab would I try to be more stealthy about it.

Every project is it’s own haxmas miracle =)
