but srsly discord is way more accesible and we can do a lot more with it. Slack is a pox on the world.

Why does this need a proposal? Go make a discord. See if people join. We already have an unofficial discord but you must not be cool enough to know about it.

Why do you want it to be official? You want the board to monitor it?

IMnsHO, Having too many disconnected communication channels is a problem
because it fragments the community based on preferred communications tools and
too much happens in one tool that's not visible to people using the other
channel(s)

I didn't get enough research doen to make a proposal before yesterday's deadline
for the first HYH in December. Which means that this would have to wait until
the 2nd HYH in December to be voted on.

But I'd be in favor of ways to combine different ways of talking. Some people
prefer web interfaces, some prefer email, some prefer apps. It's a bad thing if
all these tools are independent, but a good thing if everyone can use their
preferred tool but see/respond to messages from people on the other tools.

The Baen's Bar forums are a web forum (FUD Forum software) which talks to NNTP,
which Exim then can use with email. so different people use email, nntp, or the
web interface and all are seeing the same messages.

I know that Slack has usage limits. I don't know if we are paying for it or are
on a free tier.

I've been told that discord is free with no usage limits.

I have just started to look for discord <-> email and slack <-> email gateways
and have had no chance to do anything beyond a google search and see that there
are such tools out there.

Also I reject your concept of time and per unix epoch or some other such excuse I decided I made my proposal within the pre requisite time and I demand it be included in the next HYH that I will forget to attend.

There is no heatsync discord that I know of, however sheldon may be referring to the Phoenix Tech discord. It leans much more towards software development than general making, but of course anyone on here (regardless of cool kid status) is welcome to join it: https://discord.gg/yaNcXzV4tr

I have been told that the people working on re-writing the member site are
communicating on discord. I have asked that ATK and I get added to the discord
so we can see what's being done, but so far it has not happened.

Is this the same discord you are referring to?

Could be a different one. Not sure. I know some of the developers are on the Phx Tech discord, but I haven't noticed any related discussion happening there.

Honestly i think it will be good to have slack for the administrative stuff and discord for shenanigans and community. No one is obligated to use this. Its about as official as anything else that is do-ocracied. Can also probably set up an integration with slack so importasnt stuff gets communicated if people engage the slack less.

For the record Slack was originally created as an unofficial slack. I have no idea when it switched from being mentioned as unofficial to just being slack. I could have missed the communications that had gone out about that.

I hate all stream of consciousness versions of communications platforms. I much prefer something more like a forum where you can look up stuff later more easily.
