I have a Cardellino engine that when built up has no crankshaft end float whatsoever. In the parts book it shows a thrust washer on one side of the crankshaft but this is missing completely. There is a witness mark on the drive side crankcase bush. Any advice please?
Thanks

Hi Jerry, There should be some end float, even if very small. But the most important thing is whether the crank turns freely. If it does, then I'd just let it run.
My Cardellino has a brass bush on the mag side and a parallel roller bearing on the drive side that floats. So end float is controlled from the mag side. But it may not be standard.

Thanks Ron. Yes mine is the same as you describe, it doesn't take long for me to forget stuff!
I've put the cases together with a gasket between now which I reason should give hopefully just that bit of clearance. However, with the L/H thread nut (mag end)on the crankshaft tightened down on the spacer collar, the whole thing is nipped up solid. I assume that nut is meant to be tight?
