Motoleggera painting

Dear All,

I'm restarting the restoration of my 1953 Motoleggera. I've got the very
good book 'Guzzino' which although all in Italian there are good apps
which will translate text from photos. Can anyone tell me what year the
pin-stripping was introduced on the cycle parts? All of the photos I've
seen have it on but the book says that for 1953 'verniciatura in rosso
senza filettature' which translates as painted in red without threads. 
Also, has anyone a reliable Moto Guzzi red paint code?

Hi Martin,

I have restored a later version of the Guzzino, mine is the Cardellino 73. I found that the colour remaining on the inside of the toolbox lid was undamaged or faded and I used that for a colour match. Assuming no-one comes up with the correct colour code this could suffice.

Mine was made way after the pinstriping was dropped.

I have a question for the others on this group regarding the Engine and frame numbers.

Can anyone decipher the letters and number so as to determine the year of manufacture?

I have the Guzzino book referred to by Martin but it is of no help resolving this puzzle.

Have you checked the Dutch Guzzi club database, that has a good selection of frame number identities.

For anything more precise, you would have to go to the Guzzi Club GB for a dating certificate, free for members or £25 for non members (the same as a years membership)  

And years of production for the various models

Yes I have been to that site but it does not decipher the code.

 

Surely someone out there knows how the coding of the letters and numbers works.

To expand a bit on my question.

 

The Cardellino 73 was made from 1957 to 1961 and the frame numbers went from B 00 AA through to B 24 FF.

 

Mine has frame number B ZT 07.

 

Can you see why am at a loss for understanding how the code works?

I would suggest having a word with Mike Walker, he is (was?)  the Guzzi expert for the VMCC, or if you are needing a dating certificate for registration then contact the club.
