Hi,

My team is interested in using grpc-java xDS based load balancer to workaround service mesh communication in scenarios that without an Envoy sidecar. I can see the code are getting actively developed and released, but can't find any issues tracking the progress or docs describing how to use it. And I have a few questions about the feature.
  1. Is the code ready to be used at least for experimental purpose? And is there an doc or example for that?
  2. Are there any more design doc other than https://github.com/grpc/proposal/blob/master/A24-lb-policy-config.md for this feature? The proposal said there will be subsequent gRFC describing xDS LB policy but I couldn't find it.
Thanks,

The code is not yet ready for use even experimentally, but it probably will be within the next quarter or so.

I am actually already in the process of writing a gRFC for the xds work, so please look for that to be published within the next couple of weeks.

Hi Junpeng, I'm wondering what XDS server implementation is your choice in your scenarios that're without an Envoy sidecar, because grpc team is not providing a compatible XDS server implementation in open source.

In our case, we are running our own xDS implementation. When I play around with the xDS LB, I used Envoy's open sourced xDS implementation reference with minor modification. https://github.com/envoyproxy/go-control-plane

I've sent out the first draft of the gRFC, which is here:
