Hi Cloud SQL Users

This is to notify you of a minor change to the Cloud SQL service.

We periodically restart Cloud SQL instances to perform upgrades, migrate between data centers, etc. Since your data is replicated in multiple locations, the interruption to your service is very short -- typically a few seconds. (You can test this yourself by pressing the ‘restart’ button in the console, which has the same effect.)

Occasionally the MySQL instance fails to shut down cleanly. If this happens we force a crash, in which case the instance takes longer to recover when it restarts (up to a few minutes). We have recently increased the timeout before forcing a crash from 1 minute to 10 minutes, since we believe it is preferable for the MySQL instance to be shut down cleanly.

Please let us know if you have any questions

thanks
