Was delighted to see a further review of Braz Menezes's 
"MORE MATATA" by my friend Stephen Luscombe of the 
British Empire Library site at the attachment below.

Thank you Mervyn.  Stephen certainly combed through both books and connected the dots. If Augusto would only find the time  he would find some answers to many of the issues he is always trolling about, especially how the caste issue played out in Goan institutions. For example, at  the one and only Dr Ribeiro Goan School, the grandson of Dr Rosendo Ribeiro was transferred to another (non-Catholic) school for his high school as the Board became almost dysfunctional in the early 50s.
There is much more in both books, as I set out to tell the Goan story in the colonial context.

Indeed I have met a few young Canadians of Goa heritage in BC who craved to understand the life and times of their grandparents in East Africa. I suggested they read the Matata books because the facts behind the story are so vivid and very much frame the scene.

That's a good idea which I would endorse Cliff. They will be able to comfortably get clued into Goan East African politics in a gentle way.

Thank you Cliff and Augusto. Cliff I had remembered your comments on Amazon.ca back in January 2016, which I paste below:

[There is a Cherokee proverb "Don't criticise someone unless you have walked in their moccasins" I have rarely enjoyed a book so much as I have Beyond the Cape. Many books have been written about Asians in East Africa. A few books have been written about Goans in East Africa. This one encapsulates the lives of post-war a Kenyan-Goan generation, spanning the racially segregated of East Africa and the educational needs of community attempting to ensure its future in colonial Africa. Through the character of Lando, Menezes captures the facts, myths, traditions, notions, fears and aspirations with incredible detail. Only someone who had lived through the events could write this. He even captures the unique Goan-English dialogue. This sets the book aside from many academic books and papers (including my own) or the reportage-style books on the "Afrikander" experience. A "must read" that captures a specific time and place with strong community voice.]

The digital version of the books is priced at the cost of a cup of coffee in Vancouver, so the issue is how to bring awareness of these books to 
the generation you refer to. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks again.
