Goa, 1961: reviews & all

Paresh Prabhu, Editor, Navprabha (Panjim, Goa), has penned an interesting op-ed in today’s edition of the daily. It focuses on the role of Goan Catholics in the freedom movement, as elucidated in the forthcoming book Goa, 1961 published by Penguin Random House India. The article is in the Marathi language. Those interested may see it at:

http:www.navprabha.com/?p=313252

The national media has also mentioned the book. You may like to see:

Over the next few weeks, I propose to reproduce excerpts from the forthcoming book. The purpose is not just to inform the potential reader what to expect from the book (though the posts will mainly be humorous snippets) but to demonstrate that the book does not belong to me alone: it is the outcome of a collaborative effort of many, both military veterans and civilian authors, without whose spontaneous help and support the book would not be a reality – at least in its present shape.

All such persons have been named and thanked in the book’s Acknowledgements.

Of course, the book goes under my name and I would be solely responsible for any inaccuracies.

Following my 30 June 2023 announcement of the book, many asked me about the authors of the comments that I reproduced. The five distinguished military veterans will need a separate piece each, even if I keep their profile to the barest minimum. Such is their versatility.

The posts will be for information only. There is no need to acknowledge or write, save if you have a question, doubt or comment.

Of course, there may be some who are not interested in the posts. Email and WhatApp recipients only need to drop me a line and they will forthwith stop receiving the pieces. Those on Facebook (members of groups, in particular) would best ignore the posts.

Valmiki,
The Navprabha link does seem to work.

Dear Valmiki,

I need the copy as it is of urgency. I am about to file a proposal for Ph.D at a Toronto University, and my subject is Goa's Liberation. I am in the process of doing the proposal and also looking for a guide. I have asked for help to suggest a suitable guide. The university  now allows seniors, but first they had denied me as it didn't "recognize" by MA from Bombay University. It was normal that Indian degrees were undervalued by Canadian universities.
I understand it will be released by July 24. However, Sonia Shirsat, the singer, is coming to Toronto on, ,I think, 19th July to participate in the Jully 22 event. So is the team Tammy/Roy. If I could get copy earlier, I can request Sonia to bring it for me. I can ask my sister (who is in Bogmalo) to send a cheque to you.

Sincerely,

Eugene Correia

Maybe you have to copy/paste the link to the browser, because the hyperlink is defective.

Dear Eugene,
I do not know when I will receive the copies I have asked for. If they arrive by 19 July, it will be my pleasure to send you a signed copy.
However, just last night, a friend in the US said the book has been opened for pre-orders at Barnes & Noble (something I will publicise later in the day). You may like to check:

Thank you, Frederick, and sorry interested members. I didn't check the link was defective.
The correct one appears below (it probably has to be copy/pasted to the browser):

As usual it’s a case of eating one’s food by twisting your hand around the head and then putting the spoon in your palm into the mouth.

I put this remark on the “Global Goencars” WhatsApp group with regard to someone’s post informing about the publication of The Goa 1961 book and one reader was so tickled he thought Valmiki should “use this quote on the cover of his next book”.

Here’s my remark;

“I’d go so far as to say that if you are a literate Goan, have come across information of a book by Valmiki Faleiro and chose not to buy a copy and read it, you’re a village idiot”.

Roland.

What does the post by Roland in reply to my asking Valmiki if I can get the book earlier means? It's simple that I want to read the book, and I ready to pay for it, as soon as possible to enable me to gather some knowledge and points. Amazon will release the book in November, and Valmiki has said it would be ready by July 24.
I have someone coming from Goa on July 19, and it was my request if there's it would be ready before July 19. I don't want to go around my neck to eat my food, or dip into someone else's plate. Roland's post smacks of negativity.
