GGobi development beyond gtk2

Thanks for developing GGobi, which I like using a lot.
GGobi is convenient to use and still has unique features like labeling points upon mouse point.

I'm worried about not being able to compile packages of it in not too distant versions of Linux (as well as Mac OS X and Windows) due to GGobi's dependence on gtk2.
This library is unfortunately seen as deprecated and a security issue current releases of major Linux distributions.

I could not see hints for adapting the GGobi source code to newer versions of GTK on GitHub.
Are there any efforts towards this end?
