I have finished transcribing the current run of Carlisle Journal editions on the British Newspaper Archive website (1810, 1811, 1814 and 1815).
I have again compiled a detailed name index for the BMD columns of the Carlisle Journal for those four years. I have not indexed the Local News transcriptions.
There are four BMD indexes: Births (containing 89 entries), Marriages (3667 entries), Deaths (3510 entries) and Others (1741 entries).
The "Others" index contains the names of persons mentioned in the marriages and deaths columns that were not the persons who were married or had died, e.g. their relatives, or the officiating minister.
If you find a relevant entry in the index, you are always advised to look either at the transcription or at the original paper as there may well be more details than in the index.
The index and the transcriptions can be found on the forum of the Cumbria Family History Society at
https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php - scroll down to the "Transcriptions" section and choose the "Transcriptions from the Carlisle Journal" board, or go directly to
https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php?board=82.0 . You may first be directed to the GDPR page, where you need to decide whether you allow cookies.
This part of the forum is accessible to all comers - you don't even need to be registered with the forum or be a member of the Cumbria FHS. However, I would strongly recommend that you at least register with the forum or preferably become a member of the Cumbria FHS (if you aren't already) as that will give you access to a lot more resources on the forum.
Please look at the Introduction page of the index first - it explains who and what is indexed, the rules I have followed, abbreviations etc.
You are welcome to download the index to your computer to use for your own research or to do lookups for others. It is in Microsoft Excel 2013. However, please do NOT republish the whole index or part of it in any form, online or otherwise, without my permission.
Have fun!
