Frame repair questions

Hi all,

I'm doing my first tube replacement and I'm hoping the group can answer a couple of questions.  I'm replacing the 35mm DT on a new construction lugged Columbus Life frame.  I've already separated the DT/HT joint by reheating.  That was pretty easy.  For the BB joint I'm thinking it's better to grind out the old tube rather than reheat.  What's the best way to do this? I don't have a die grinder, just a couple of Dremels.  If a die grinder is the only way to do this right, I can bite the bullet and get one, but I'm just a hobbyist so if there's another way I'd just as soon not.  Would a reamer work?  Something else?  Am I thinking about this the wrong way and should I just use heat to remove the old tube?

Also, on the DT/HT joint I've thoroughly cleaned everything up so there's just shiny bare metal and shiny old silver on the inside walls of the lug visible.  Is it necessary to remove all the old silver or will it just remelt and combine with the new silver and make a strong joint?

I’ve done this with a Dremel, using a carbide burr to remove the remainder of the steel tube after cutting and filing all I could get, and then a sanding roll to smooth it.  This was on a lugged frame joined with brass. 

If your frame is joined with silver, I’d try

melting it out.

I'm curious.  You said this is a new frame?  What is the issue?
