Hi

What should be the connection string to connect with a specific role to a database in a server?

that is, for example:

112.179.0.1:/var/Firebird/databases/butterflies.fdb...

what more?

Thanks

It depends on the tool you use to connect.

I'm using Libreoffice, but the connection string I give in my question is in the Firebird's Quick start gide, so I suspect it is used in many other connections

Then you should read Libre Office manual and ask in Libre Office support.
Firebird connection string itself has no provision for role name (as well as
user name or anything else).

The connection string as used by fbclient does not support connection
properties, because connection properties like the role name are passed
in something called the database parameter buffer (or DPB).

Looking at the available options, it looks like LibreOffice Base simply
does not support connection properties beyond username and password.

You could use a JDBC connection using Jaybird, as that does allow you to
specify connection properties in the URL, but be aware that Jaybird 6
and higher no longer support the jdbc:firebird:oo: protocol which you'd
need to use to address some problems LibreOffice has with the normal
jdbc:firebird: implementation due to some differences in interpretation
of JDBC, so you need to use Jaybird 5.
