Problems downloading from Fanfiction

Hey, 

I've been having a few problems updating current stories in Calibre and downloading new ones from Fanficton.net. Eveytime ive run the plugin, the coment on the log says the following:

<urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:581)>  https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11041506/1/

We've seen that error a couple times, it's generally been problems on
the user's machine or the OpenSSL library. Here's what we found before:

I had tried eveything you mentioned below and the same error message still keeps popping up, do you have any other suggestions?

This is a somewhat complicated issue with how OpenSSL validates
certificates. It cropped up this past spring when the cert validation
code was changed to work more correctly. This all happens at a lower
level than either FanFicFare or calibre directly control.

You haven't said what OS you run on, but make sure you are up to date in
your versions of OS, python (on linux & MacOS(?)) and calibre might help.

My system runs on windows 8, but I've already had my computer checked and updated.

Is there anything else I can try?

What is your OS, calibre, and FFF versions?  can you try visiitng fanfiction.net with internet explorer to see if that works?

I'm on windows 8, Cali v 2.34 FFFv 2.2.11 - all up to date.

Tried fanfiction.net with internet explorer, I still receive the same thing.

"still receive the same thing" meaning IE works, or you get the same
error there?

If you run calibre in debug mode (Ctl-Shift-R) and post the debug log
that might help us figure something out.

Hi Jim,

I tried to run it via IE but I receive the same error message, I tired again this morning and I have been able to update stories from TWCS but not from FF and Fiction Pad

One last try. I've posted a test version of the plugin that forces
calibre to use unverified SSL certs in foreground as well as background
when use_ssl_unverified_context=true in personal.ini.

The correct way to fix this problem is to figure out what's wrong with
your cert chain and fix it, but I can't do that remotely.

This is a work around that reduces your security. But since it only
effects calibre SSL connections, you may choose to accept that.

Let me know if it works, either way.
