Sam Altman's OpenAI just tweeted:

"we will cross well over 1 million GPUs brought online by the end of this year!"

A few months ago Elon Musk was bragging that he had 200,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, but this would make OpenAI the largest consumer of AI compute on Earth.

Then Altman said something even more incredible: 

"very proud of the team but now they better get to work figuring out how to 100x that lol"

That would be an incredible goal but it looks like they've taken the first step:
