The March 31, 2025 issue of the journal Nature Neuroscience reports on a brain to speech synthesizer that works much faster than anything previously. An implant was put on the surface of a woman's Brain cortex who was severely paralyzed by a stroke and had lost the ability to speak. The implant is a paperthin square with 253 electrodes on it that records the activity of thousands of neurons every 80  milliseconds, with it she was able to speak between 47 and 90 words per minute, not as fast as normal conversation which is about 160 words per minute but MUCH. faster than anything that has come before. It's a pity Stephen Hawking didn't live long enough to take advantage of this new technology
