I don't understand how those who called themselves futurists can still support this man.

Johnny one-note continues to waste bandwidth here. Please, let's get rid of him and his dumb posts. He thinks science is a religion, but surely uses anesthetics for surgery and root canal work. So hypocritical and just plain dumb. AG

@Alan. You make the classical confusion between science and technology. It has the deeper roots of you not understanding the meaning of the word "useful". Only because something is useful, it doesn't mean it is true. Root canal is useful, but is not science, is just technology.

Great idea but how do we do that? Apparently nobody has the power to kick anybody off this list.

Technology depends on science, crucially in fact. You're the one who has no understanding of what you write. Why don't you just STFU? AG

Only because you put 2 bricks on top of each other in different positions until you find a position in which they dont fall that is not science. Is just rqndom guessing until something works. But you have no idea why it works. Sure, you can invent theories: it works because that position is blessed by Gods. But that is not science. Science is only when you know the true reason.

You don't know shit. What you offer is the pretention of knowledge. The "true reason" of anything is unknown, even in mathematics, and having a placeholder for what can be known, in your case "consciousness",  is worthless. Science is a progression of approximations to truth, a work in progress. AG

How does "energy" approximates consciousness ?

Give him a break. He advocates consciousness in woke academic settings, in the hope of one day securing a woke academic job and salary. Every vulgar post here sabotages his own effort to be taken seriously. Even to future employers. His country's transition from dictatorship was enabled by years of woke efforts by his countrymen, woke EU diplomacy, and access to EU structural funds, that woke Europeans pay taxes for, enabled by woke US soft power since WW2.

His very freedom to insult and undermine his name's credibility, his goals, his project, his acquired standard of living, his education, is all the result of the very woke efforts he wants to save the world from with revolutionary ideas that are as common as everybody's personal beliefs. And if they worked on all the women he claims as conquests, he wouldn't have time to post nor project his frustration towards every post he replies to each and every day.

His drive towards hypermasculine, strong man aesthetics is something he doesn't have the genetics for. He is "only consciousness exists" but unhappy with his physical beta appearance. And all the hate and hysteria just mirrors lack of self-esteem. List members who understand this, can remind him that voluntary commitment is not something to be ashamed of, and that the self-hate he sees as necessary is, in fact, not necessary. Or they can let him post and continue to let him believe that it makes some positive difference, which he is utterly convinced of. As if anybody's judgement here on anybody else mattered.

What does AI has to do with the stars ? There are no aliens because people don't understand what the universe is. The universe is our body. And in the same way we don't have eyes on our legs, we also don't have eyes on other planets.

There is no body, so it can't be the universe which doesn’t exists...

Cosmin, do you have any evidence that you'd like to present? I am open to arguments from the scientists who explain things with "Quantum Woo," Quantum Woo is the best Chinese physicist I know of. Actually, when somebody has a theory (some evidence) I tend to be enthusiastic. What can you toss our way?

Tall, handsome, Western Male, No need to ask, I'm a smooth operator....
Are you saying life is a simulation? I'd go with Professor Vopson in Portmouth U in the UK. If we are in a sim we need more computing cycles!
Or what are you saying how we "exist" as part of?
Vopson-

Not your body, but "your body", the body of any human being. Of course, like everyone else in this world, you define it as that thing that has legs, arms, head, etc. Why that definition ? Based on what criteria do you define it like that ? Tell me here whatever criteria you want and I will show for each of them how they fail.

Maybe this is the answer to Fermi's paradox? No sane AI's, no technological progression to the stars?

It does give food for thought because, at least in humans, there does seem to be a relationship between genius and madness. Insanity is an occupational hazard for pure mathematicians, especially great pure mathematicians. The Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash (of "Beautiful Mind" fame) was a mathematical prodigy but became completely incapacitated by schizophrenia when he was about 30. He had two sons, one of them demonstrated profound mathematical ability at an absurdly young age but he also became completely incapacitated by schizophrenia at an even earlier age than his father had, while he was still a teenager. His other son only had average intelligence but never had any sign of mental illness, he became a registered emergency room nurse and as far as I can tell had a happy life.

Maybe we need computer psychiatrists, I don't mean computers that are psychiatrists, I mean humans who have computers as their patients.
