Can you imagine the howls of protest we'd be hearing from Fox News and the MAGA faithful if Biden or Obama had accepted such a blatant bribe from a foreign country! The estimated value of the aircraft Trump will inherit is about $400 million.

It's unconstitutional for a President to accept a personal gift.  If Qatar wants to give the United States a plane to use as Air Force one, fine...but then it belongs to the Air Force, for use by whomever is President.

As if trump cared about the constitution... he said he doesn't know if he has to uphold the constitution, why do you even ask ?

Remember, whether its Kamala or the Donald, a policy must work in the real world planet earth. If it doesn't work and is tstill pursued, it then is ideology, someone's ideology. If so, then I ask, who is the paymasters of said, pol.

Like the policy of increasing tariffs MORE than the disastrous Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 did which turned a garden-variety recession into the first, and so far the only, global economic depression? Even after Trump faced reality by backing down and reducing the tariffs on China from a stunningly imbecilic 145%, it's still at 30% and he threatens to bring it back to 145% in just 90 days. Smoot-Hawley only had a comparatively modest 20% tariff.

If it doesn't work and is tstill pursued, it then is ideology,

And that is exactly why I am justified in calling MAGA people cult members.

who is the paymasters of said, pol.

With Trump it's easy to answer that question. We can start with Trump receiving a  $400 million super luxury private jet (9 bathrooms all with bidetsfrom the Qatar royal family. Before that plane can be used as Air Force One it will need to be taken apart piece by piece to check for bugs and other spying equipment, and then all sorts of supersecret communication devices will need to be installed, and decoy probes to confuse anti-aircraft missiles. And it will need to be very extensively modified to allow in-flight refueling just like the current air force one

All this means the American taxpayer will need to shell out about $1 billion for that "free" private jet. And it will take about three years, so if Trump decides to leave office at the end of his second term (a very very big if) he will only be able to use it as president for a few months, after that ownership of the airplane does not go to the United States government but to Trump's presidential library, which means he will still be able to use that obnoxiously luxurious private jet not the new president, and even after he dies his children could use it. Trump's attorney general Pam Bondi looked into all of this and said it was 100% legal and ethical, but she is a former lobbyist who was paid $125,000 a month to lobby Congress on behalf of the country of Qatar.

And that jet is just a hint of the gargantuan magnitude of the Trump family corruption. Eric Trump has deals to create a Trump Tower luxury hotel in Dubai, and in Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. There's also going to be a Trump International Hotel and luxury golf course in Oman. And there is a partnership with Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund  to develop yet another luxury golf resort in that country

And then there is Trump's cryptocurrency scam "Stablecoin" which the Trump children control, an Abu Dhabi Company has a $2 billion investment in it.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Trump's first foreign trip during his second term as president is to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. It sure makes the Hunter Biden "corruption" scandal look pretty damn trivial.

John, I asked Gemini this: When did Smoot Hawley end? I learned some history just now, and The Donald is doing nothing but what FDR did from 1933 onwards. Except Donald is a much, much faster learner thabn FDR was. Weeks instead if years with trade deals!
=========================================================

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Enactment:
The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on June 17, 1930, during the Great Depression.
  • Impact:
This act significantly increased tariffs on imported goods, aiming to protect American businesses from foreign competition. However, it was widely criticized for contributing to a global trade war and worsening the economic downturn.
  • Gradual Changes:
The Smoot-Hawley Act's impact lessened over time due to several factors:
    • Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (1934): This act gave the President authority to negotiate trade agreements that could reduce tariffs on a reciprocal basis with other countries.
    • General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) (1947): This international agreement aimed to reduce trade barriers and promote free trade, leading to a gradual lowering of tariffs worldwide.
    • World Trade Organization (WTO): The WTO, which succeeded GATT, continued to promote free trade and further reduce tariffs on a global scale.
  • No Specific End:
The Smoot-Hawley Act wasn't formally repealed. Instead, the provisions within it were superseded by newer legislation and international agreements, effectively making it less relevant in modern trade practices.

No Mitch, you got your ass handed to you with the "What if Kamala..." question. Any rational person would condemn/scrutinize it like Carter's peanut farm.

And anybody can make a thousand deals a minute. It's the character/substance of the deals that counts. And if the plane goes to his library, so that a plane donated generously to the government stays in his personal possession "after office" (who believes that he would step down?), then that makes sense, as libraries all need luxurious 747s, right? There's never been a functioning library without them (something we know you can't confirm, as you've never been to one, whether on- or offline).

And that you still cling to the notion that this is somehow "great for America", when the guy is walking around making your iphones/tech more expensive, enriching himself with every dictator in the middle east; assuming that the cash will come back and buy you your flying hydro or your own palace in the sky... so that all MAGA gets to live the life of Arabian royalty, with Camel shows and carpets: Show us the peace in that region that all these deals bring, show us the car, along with you and all MAGAs sitting having drinks and cutting deals with Arab royalty 24/7.

And while you're sipping those drinks, the royals will be laughing behind your backs about those deals, because MAGA may have the guns... but they suck at reading anything longer than a paragraph... and maths extending numbers beyond magazine capacity. They would die for their country and destroy the woke but they would rather die than learn how to reason or read. Guns won't help with this problem. MAGA needs to learn math, science, and engineering, otherwise those factory engineers, needed to bring all those factories back, will not materialize and be controlled by woke scientists again.

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was signed into law by Republican Herbert Hoover in 1930, Democrat FDR didn't become president until 1933, and by then Smoot-Hawley had done its work and the economy of the US and the economy of the entire world was a basket case.

> Except Donald is a much, much faster learner thabn FDR was. Weeks instead if years with trade deals!

Deals? There were no deals, although there were two retreats, Trump agreed to backtrack and reduce the tariff on imports from the UK back to where they were before on cars, steel and aluminum. And Trump reduced the tariff on China for 90 days to a still catastrophic 30% from 145%. That's it.

He's cut deals with Starmer, which you didn't mention, and China. Carney in Canada just said he would lower tariff's so we shall see if his gambling pays off. If he fails, you'll be in great mood!

Which also illustrates the equally damaging collateral effect of uncertainty.  Even if Trump declared the tariffs to be zero tomorrow, who would dare plan on them being zero day after tomorrow?  He thinks tariffs will cause production to move back to the U.S.  Moving production facilities takes years.  The only useful planning horizon is that in years Trump will be dead.

Exactly correct. The thing investors fear the most is uncertainty, and nobody has any idea what the hell Trump is going to do next, least of all Trump himself. And when business leaders are scared they don't invest.

Then the Donald wioll be rightly blamed for a recession and you will be pleased. Seems reasonable.

No, Donald will say the recession was entirely the fault of Joe Biden and Barack Obama and his astronomically high tariffs had nothing to do with it. In fact ALL the evil in the world is entirely the fault of  Joe Biden and Barack Obama, while all the good in the world comes straight from Donald Trump.  And the faithful members of the MAGA cult will believe him.

As for me, I have never met a less believable man in my life. For example, Trump says he won't use that super luxurious 747 when he leaves office but I don't believe him. I don't think he will ever leave office. At least not unless he assumes room temperature.

If there's a recession amd with no other cause he can blame it on, it won't matter who he blames. Its still a problem that will require fixing.
