Default Value for Metadata Field V8

The answer was " default values can currently only be defined Collection by Collection by using the "Template Item" option.  This option lets you default default values that *all future Items* will receive when submitted to that specific Collection."

Is this still the case in V8, that default values can only be applied at collection-level? If so, is there a plan for being able to apply it to "all" (or specific collections) in newer versions?

UVa is still new to DSpace. I'm still reading through the documentation. about collection templates..... Is there a way to set up a collection template via config files, command-line or API, basically another way than using the UI?

Hello Sherry,

If you have too many collections to apply a template you can use API.

Pls check "Create Item Template" section in Rest Documentation at https://github.com/DSpace/RestContract/blob/main/collections.md
