Hi all,

I have a never-ending project that I’m still running on DS. A bunch of 2 min ish video that I output as ref movies and convert to mp4 with Squeeze. Some time back Squeeze stopped understanding .qt files so I have to save them as .mov. No biggie.

2 days ago I converted 20 videos with Squeeze. Today it fails on any ref video. I’ve restarted, reinstalled Squeeze, remade the ref files numerous times. If I load the file into Squeeze I can scrub through it - it’s only on encoding that it fails.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Tony

Oh, and I tried using Shutter Encoder but it doesn't see the ref movie.

Cheers,
Tony

Okay…

I can play the ref movies in QT Player and I can import them into MC so there’s nowt wrong with the file source - it’s strictly a Squeeze problem. I’ve not found any other encoder however that can read the ref movies so I’m kinda stuck.

Cheers,
Tony

Reference movies are a hack and require that the app using them is going
through the actual Apple Quicktime component libraries in order to use
the Avid reference movie codec plugin, which requires the old Apple
Quicktime for Windows being installed, which only runs in 32-bit apps --
which is why modern apps don't work, because they've all had to
implement their own Quicktime file handlers that don't use the Quicktime
libraries and plugins.

All things being equal, if nothing else changed (a newer version of
something got installed, etc) I'm not sure why your Squeeze *was*
working with them but now isn't... but you're better off exporting
uncompressed Quicktimes from DS using something like the Animation codec
at 100%, and then compressing using any app from of those. Pretty much
everything should be able to read Animation.

Yeah it sucks because it takes longer, but it's the only reliable thing.

Yeah, thanks Bob.

The odd thing is that Squeeze can still see the movie and I can scrub ithe movie within the app and set in points etc, it’s only when encoding that it fails.

I’ve restarted the pc and reinstalled Squeeze (repair install) to no avail. I’ve installed no new apps, nor updated windows. It’s really odd, it worked in the morning then stopped working in the afternoon. I’ve tried different H264 apps (main concept, x etc) and it fails with all of them. But only with ref movies.

Cheers,
Tony

Yeah like I said I have no idea why Squeeze is doing what it's doing,
very strange..

Did anything change about the project on the DS side? Like the bit depth
of the project, or the cache format changed to a different type like
DNxHD, or something?
