Hi,

I would like to integrate django-registration along with Oscar for account verification.

As I know Oscar uses a custom authentication backend.

has anyone tried to use both backends? (oscar and django-registration)

or maybe there is other option I may try to achieve my goal.

Do you guys think that account activation by email is necessary for e-shop?

I haven't worked with django-registration so can't comment there.

Not strictly necessary - many online shops don't have it (eg amazon).  I would be reluctant to do it unless you're having a problem with spammy signups.

I'm nearing completion of a oscar integration that does not use the oscar registration backend.  Works fine.  This is in a project that already had a registration backend and associated pages.  To minimize template changes, I overrode oscar's registration/login urls to point to our pre-existing backend.  In our case, this means that some registration urls now have two names (our original name and the name that oscar expects).  The oscar integration hasn't gone live yet so there may still be some issues but so fare it is working fine in testing.

Are you sending activation emails before account gets activated?

We automatically activate a new user's account.  Instead of an activation email, we send a "confirm email" address email.  So we have modified the backend and email storage to allow for verified and unverified email addresses.

The reason we are doing things this way is that we want people to get in and start using our application with minimal barrier to entry.  Then we unlock features for users with verified email addresses.

Hi
No way hose ;o)
If this is implemented, I will remove it as the first thing.
I dont want to annoy my costumers with such things as activation emails
But maybe make it optional with a settings OSCAR_ACCOUNT_ACTIVATION_EMAIL set deafult=False

Michael :)
