Hello,

The BUGSS Lab is considering live streaming our lab meetings, talks, and other events. Does anyone have any advice/experience/suggestions about equipment, tools and software to make this possible. The criteria are low cost (obviously) and ideally synchronous connection so that other sites could ask questions and participate in real time.

Hi Tom,

I do this at BioCurious for some of our meetings.  We are using Zoom for connecting us with anyone who isn't there along with the folks at Counter Culture Labs who we collaborate with in many communities projects.  If you'd like to see how it works I will have it up and running tonight for our DIY BioPrinter meeting at 7pm PST.  The biggest advantage of Zoom is the option for folks to call in if they don't have Internet access.

Other than web conferencing tools, having a good mic (an on going issue for us), a cheap fish eye lens for your webcam (or a nicer web cam), having a shared document with notes for folks to follow along with the conversation helps (a shared Google doc works fine).

Saw a hangout from hactuarium in Swiss the other day ... can't remember what they used off hand. But it was good ;)
