I can’t say I did not see this coming. There are 9 ballots in, and by my calculation I score 4+2, and the runners-up score natural 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1.

Once, many moons ago, I got blasted from a dizzy height for daring to post a new word in anticipation of the results announcement, even though it was a foregone conclusion. Such was the attack that other players felt impelled to come to my defence, and that persuaded me not to withdraw from the game, as I have done on three other occasions when attacked. Needless to say, I didn’t do it again for about 20 years. Nonetheless, because it is close to bedtime in France, and at most two other players remember that precedent, I announce that...

The word for Round 3204 is

FARL

Capitalization is not significant.

Please let me have your definitions for farl, to the email address dixo...@boargules.com by the deadline, which is Monday 18 October 21h00 CEST. That is somewhat under 48 hours from time of posting.

Paul,

I, for one, don't have a problem with it. In fact, I did the same once when the results were beyond question and their posting was delayed for some reason. I see it as a reasonable way to keep the game moving, and I'm glad you did it.

Should you be attacked for this, which I hope doesn't happen, I'll be on your side.

Sleep well 😴,

Efrem

Efrem, do you remember what word or round that was? Sounds like something that should go into The "real" rules.

Paul,

Yes, I do, because it was Round 2665 and I scored an all-time high of 14 points on 2664 ("cacöthes"). The late Chris Carson was delayed in posting the results because of some technical issues and, in retrospect, perhaps also because of some medical ones. In any case, it was fairly clear that nobody else would be close.

You can probably find my call for definitions of "mooncusser" in the Google Groups archives. I don't recall hearing any objections, but the passing of time may have softened them.

Efrem, I'd love to know the fake definition you gave for that word to score 14 points! Wow!

I'm also all for keeping the momentum going and not having big gaps between deals.

Debbie,

My def was "[Gr.] a dramatic structure in which the chorus provides the audience with information that the characters in a drama would already know." It got 12 votes from 16 players. I got two more for voting (by pure luck) for the real meaning, "an irresistible compulsion."

FARL: What close friends of the Patterson family's Old English Sheepdog (1979-1995, in the comic strip "For Better or Worse") called him.

Efrem/NAD, but with fond memories of Farley, may he rest in peace.

You mean I just wasted time looking for a results email that doesn't exist? LOL!

Works for me! I just didn't see the explanation quickly enough and thought an email got lost in la-la land!

It exists. Go to https://groups.google.com/g/dixonary and search for the round number. That'a a lot easier than trying to go back to December 2015 one page at a time!

BTW, anything I might have written at the time wouldn't be in the call for definitions of "mooncusser," though that was the word I eventually dealt. It would have been in the call for "langrel," which I started with but withdrew because of too many DQs.

So are we eventually going to get a results email for the last round?

Debbie,

It appears that Ryan has been unavoidably delayed.

In round 3203, the correct definition (so Google tells me) was 3, which one player voted for (me). My definition was 7 which 5 players voted for, but one of those players was me, so it got 4 usable votes.

Since there was only one vote for the real definition, the scores for the other nine players can be read directly from the votes for their , which were

DefinitionVotesScore
 1 1 1
 2 1 1
 3 1 D1
 4 1 1
 5 3 3
 6 2 2
 7 4 (+ 1 not counted) 4 + 2 = 6
 8 2 2
 9 1 1
 10 1 1
 11 -
 Total18

That is 18 votes from 9 ballots (by timestamp: Judy, Tim, me, Shani, Mike, you, Ann, Efrem, Tony). If the authors of the other definitions will identify themselves we can resolve the round scoring while Ryan is busy with whatever is engaging his attention.

If I have got something wrong here, I'm sure that Mike will set me straight.

Regards

Paul,

Mine was "10. A three-sided knife associated with Buddhist rituals." You have it recorded correctly as having received one vote.
