what is the direction of flow from hydraulic tank to spool

what is the purpose of the unit circled

does the flow pass out of the unit into spool or other way round

how can i remove this unit from the hose/spool? the nut doesnt unscrew at either end.

if anyone is familiar with these diggers at all?

Tank > pump > spools > Rams (or pressure release) >oil
filter > tank

what is the purpose of the unit circled

Oil filter housing.

does the flow pass out of the unit into spool or other way round

Oil filter is the last thing in circuit before oil
returns to tank, to catch any debris that is created in the system and
stop it settling in the tank.

how can i remove this unit from the hose/spool? the nut doesnt unscrew
at either end.

On mine the hose just pulls off the barb. It's held on
with a jubilee clip as it's considered 'low-pressue' at this point. I
wouldn't undo the barb unless it's damaged.
