Hi,

Sorry I have missed a couple of our DAUG meetings! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I think I have one or two small problems with a couple of things.

  1. Facebook no longer opens up on Safari. It seems I need Chrome to do that. How come THAT happened? The same is with my ZOOM program - it no longer opens in Safari. So is Google taking away my Safari programs? And if so, how come?
  2. I also have a problem with my home screen. The one that has Today’s news on it, weather, etc. I have bad karma when it comets some computer stuff.  My photo (iPhoto) on both lap top Mac Book Pro 4  and iPhone will only let me crop photos by 4 sides of the   Most times, I want to crop one thing out, but can no longer do that with the crop app. I want to be able to crop out ONE side of a photo sometimes, and I cannot do that now.
  3. I have a problem with any screen - sometimes I poke something on the screen by mistake, and the whole screen suddenly fills the space available on my desk top computer. I KNOW I’m hitting something by mistake, but I don;t know what it is. I want to be able to drag  a document or something withOUT it suddenly zooming all the way out. Is there something I can turn off in settings? I HATE it.

Suggestions appreciated.

Hi Mary,

We are also hoping you had a great Christmas and New Year!

We may need information about your Mac diagnosis your problem. If you could give us your Mac Model and OS version, it will help. You should find both in About This Mac from the Apple menu.

It appears your OS may be too old to run some web sites. Chrome (or Opera) browser may be a short term solution.

What happens when you go to Facebook.com on your Mac? Is there a message about your system being too old?

Zoom is a standalone application, which can be started using a link. Safari might be too old also to relay the link to start Zoom app. You can always start Zoom from your Applications folder and enter the meeting ID and password from our meeting messages. Those don't change from meeting to meeting. Always the same.

I don't understand what happens to your screen, Hitting the green button at the top left should go to full screen, but I'm not sure that is what is happening.

I meant to send this a couple of days ago...

Jim

Hi Jim,

Thanks for responding to my questions.

  1. My laptop computer is a MacBook Pro, serial # C02D202VMD6Q. I think it’s about 4 years old. It is running ) Sequoia 15.2.  Safari is running version 18.2   No messages about the age of the computer from Safari..
  2. Facebook in Safari shows my name, cover photo and a bit of the ordinary information. There are no comments, no photos, no input of anything I communicate in Facebook with. Chrome shows ALL of the usual information.
  3. Zoom is currently making a liar out of me by acting normally. But it has NOT been normal for a while, because the boy way I could get it to work was Chrome. OAF course, today, for some reason, it worked on Safari.
  4. The photo issue on both emoter and iPhone:  I often crop photos to make the original picture look bigger. When I try it now, I poke in “Crop”, it pulls up the crop icon, but when I try to crop out - say ,the bottom part of the original photo, all 4 sides get cropped. I used to be able to crop ONE side at a time. Now, I can ONLY crop ALL 4 sides of the photo. So in essence, it makes the photo bigger but crops out all 4 sides.

I dunno if that’s clear or not. I’m hoping there’s a button I can poke in some settings that will make that problem vanish, and that I accidentally poked that button to turn off that feature by mistake.

Thanks.

Marybart
