Hi Jim,

I am sorry to inform you that Bob Hempel passed away Wednesday, 8/14. He had been in and out of the hospitals at least five times since the end of March. There were just all kinds of issues that the doctors could no longer fix at the end. He passed quietly and actually had very little pain during this whole time for which we are very grateful. A celebration of life will happen on 8/31, 10am, Westchester Community, United Church of Christ. There will be a Zoom link available. Let me know if anyone wants it and I will gladly give it to you.

As you know, Bob truly enjoyed this group and considered all of you very good friends.
He will be missed. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Elaine Hempel

Sorry to miss the meeting.  A contractor who was due next week came tonight.  Go figure.
The image I sent was a photo of what was on my IMac.  Happens on occasion.

Oh nutz.  So sorry to hear about Bob Hempel.  Prayers to the family.  Also sorry to miss the meeting.  Life has had ups and downs since we learned Guy has kidney cancer about a month ago.  He was in the hospital for two weeks and is home now, 20 lbs lighter and is going to have 4 immunotherapy treatments that are 3 weeks apart before they remove the kidney.  He has 3 tiny spots on his lungs that they want to rule out any cancer there before any surgery so he's on Eliquis.  What with doctors, nurses, therapy, etc., we've been knocked for a loop schedule wise.  Guy stopped teaching but is going to go back next week to a reduced load of students.  He needs a hip replacement on top of it all but can't do that until the cancer thing is out of the way.  So he's on a cane, and sometimes a walker.  He had 1,000 mg iron infusion last week because he was so weak.  Seems a bit better now and things are leveling out a bit.  My time has not been my own as I have more to do now.  But hope to see you all at the next meeting.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear all this difficult news. Bob seemed to be a man full of life.
Donna, I am sorry to hear about your husbands difficulties. My thoughts go to you as well. Being a caregiver is a very difficult job. I know, my husband was sick for several years before he added last November.

I have missed the last few meetings but hope to attend in the future.

Best wishes to all.

I find this just the saddest news. Bob was a very nice, considerate, gentle man. That came across even in these brief discussions online. May he rest in peace.

I propose to make

not relentless pain,

just calm every day.
