Hi name is Peter trying to set every thing up on my cyclone I'm using a arduino and grbl shield.

I'm not a coder .I'm am not electronics engineer I'm a simple hobbyist trying to make simple pcb boards for my ham radio learning but I don't want to use chemical method so a friend has a 3d printer and printed the parts for me.

The rest is up to me.as they say.so please help with my queries below.

Thanks in advance.

I just need a starting point with all the settings in $$.could some one please do a screen dump so I can copy.

I have used the latest version of grbl and version 9x.

Also anyone using proteus for board design need to find out how to convert to gcode file.

Here you have all the necesary commands to configure grbl:

https://github.com/grbl/grbl/wiki/Configuring-Grbl-v0.9

Also for the gcode generator, you can use gerber2gcode, you need to get the gerbers from proteus.

Hi Peter, welcome,
You can find a pre-configured GRBL firmware here: https://github.com/carlosgs/grblforcyclone/tree/grblForCyclone_CNCShield
There is also a pre-build .hex somewhere in the google group

As Iceflow points out, the key is to obtain Gerber files, which are the standard for most gcode generators (try also FlatCAM and Rapid-PCB.com)

Cheers,
Carlos

OK found the grbl cnc zip file and tried to follow the wiki to up load but I cannot get it to upload to the IDE. I managed this with the original GRBL file.any ideas what I'm doing wrong. it says I quote..

Arduino: 1.6.6 (Windows 10), TD: 1.27, Board: "Arduino/Genuino Uno"

Specified folder/zip file does not contain a valid library
Invalid library found in C:\Users\M1DGQ\Documents\Arduino\libraries\grblForCyclone-grblForCyclone_CNCShield: C:\Users\M1DGQ\Documents\Arduino\libraries\grblForCyclone-grblForCyclone_CNCShield

Cheers for the pointers having never done any CNC stuff in my life. I've managed to get it working with a test file I managed to cobble together from the gcode wiki. This file has a square with two diagonal lines from corner to corner, a ruler in the x plane, a ruler in the y plane and a circle so I test all of my axis. One thing I've noticed from a complete newbie is you have no test files or if you do they are not in an obvious location. Also what extension name to call one if you write a file from scratch .i.e. .NC .simple things like this would make this build one of the best I have come across.

Hi Peter, remember you can edit the wiki at any time, in order to help others:
https://github.com/CarlosGS/Cyclone-PCB-Factory/wiki

File extension is often .gcode or .nc
It would be great to have a couple of examples in the wiki, maybe you could create a new page with a brief, commented g-code example? Like a brief introduction to a g-code

As for GRBL, I believe it is a problem with the name of the folder. The end result should be

C:\Users\M1DGQ\Documents\Arduino\libraries\grbl
containing all of the .c and .h files and the three sub-folders. Please try it out again after re-arranging the directories and re-starting arduino

CHEERS for the help managed to get the cnc shield firmware into the Arduino in the end. So I now have homing working cool.

OK attached is a dxf file that needs converting to gcode this is were I am struggling so much.( I drew this at work using auto-cad.)
help converting this would be appreciated.

Gerber file to follow when I have worked out flatcam etc.

This was the idea for an example file if you could convert it for me I will have a go at the wiki I am no computer wizard I'm learning very slowly at present.
The example file could be run using a biro which has had the innards removed and cut down. Then using the chuck of the Dremel it can hold the pen innards like a drill bit.

getting there slowly.
Test file for gcode 2.dxf

Ok guys if your reading this then your probably going down the same route as me and learning so attached is a dxf file that bcnc can read. if you manage to get this in to gcode format for the cyclone please post it in this thread as I would like to post it on the wiki as an example file to test your machines with.

Test file for gcode 3.dxf
