I remember cobird postings of Three-toed Woodpeckers near 67 and Rampart Range. Were the sightings near the parking lot? Any info would help.

I will miss being part of the cobird/CFO family. Great folks, always informative, fun and motivating. I'm currently taking an online course with Cornell Lab of Ornithology on eastern field ornithology to prep my ID skills.
I have two weeks left to bird from my CO home and then we drive off into the
....sunrise to the Catskills.

Jennifer,
The e Bird hotspot for the area, with the catchy name, "Rampart Range Rd. at Hwy 67"
pinpoints the safe parking lot at that intersection.
I usually find the  woodpeckers just down the hill to the east, on either side of 67 in the burned areas. If you get to the meadows along Indian Creek
on the south side of the road, you are better off going back uphill a ways, although other birds can be found downhill.

Sometimes it takes a while to hear and see the target birds, but there are often Red Crossbills and other birds to enjoy.
Please document the birds you find there at that e Bird hotspot, which is accumulating robust data on the woodpeckers and other avifauna of the area.

Caution - some who go there hop out of their cars and immediately play woodpecker tapes, even during the breeding season, which is to be discouraged.
And, the traffic can be busy and dangerous, especially on weekends, degrading the ambience. The shoulder is narrow, so be safe.

Thanks for all the info. I have seen Three-toed Woodpeckers. I'm driving out 67 taking a friend birding who is sporting a large leg boot due to a fracture. I'm not sure of Joes molt year, but my youngster/fledgling years were in the 1950's. My next molt is April 28, last day in CO home. I stretch my wings at the start of my 67th year. So many, many more thermals to ride!
