Things were quiet today, except for two avocets and a juvenile snowy egret. Among the pelicans and ring-bills was an adult gull I couldn't identify. It had a dark eye, red dot on the bill, wings slightly darker than the ring-bills with black primaries, and yellow legs. Maybe a Thayer's and I misjudged the legs?

Beth,

The likely candidate would be California Gull, which you described perfectly, and breeds locally in Colorado. I counted 300 at one lake in Loveland the other day. Thayer's arrive in October, and have bright pink legs.
