Hi all,
I have not seen anything posted about the severe decrease in hummingbirds that we're seeing in Northern Colorado and I wondered if others are seeing the same, and what theories there might be about the causes. We had large numbers during the April and early May storms, but now we have only one or two (one broad tail, one black-chinned male) when normally we'd have up to a dozen regularly in the yard and neighborhood.
   Thanks for your insights,
Pat

Hi Pat, I've been wondering the same.  I usually have two breeding pairs in my yard, vigorously courting their mates and defending their turf, and this year, despite having hummingbirds present since april 20, I do not have any territorial birds in my yard, just birds that seems to come in from the surrounding area.  The birds that were here during the storms seemed to survive fine, so I wonder instead if they had a hard ( i.e., dry) winter in Mexico.
