"Fine" article? I don't think so. The British reality in 1940 was complex and horrendous; nevertheless, there was an underlying "Blitz Spirit": Britain and its capital city came through: there was no folding up, as happened elsewhere, Antoine. A word of advice to you: don't look for balanced articles about Boris and WSC in the Corbynista Guardian.

It would take a great deal more than just appearing in The Guardian to make me spurn Richard Overy's judgment as an historian of World War II.  In fact, in thirty years in war and defense work at the Pentagon, his 1995 book Why the Allies Won is the only one I kept copies of at both home and Pentagon office.  Thank you very much for this article, Antoine!
