Google might be killing chromeos in favor of a new Android Desktop

Hi chromevox-discuss community,

I am probably sharing the worst news for us blind users. If any of the numerous articles currently talking about this is true - this link is only one random I chose to post here - then we might well see the end of chromeos and especially chromevox soon.

Now. I am a daily user of macos and windows. Chromeos (flex) was first installed on my pi400, then an old dynabook laptop, after I was so impressed by chromevox and especially its web browsing which is the closest to nvda I got outside of windows, and, in my opinion, if we acknowledge the pure lack of mathml/mathjax capabilities, better than macos voiceover for most things and this infamous safari does not respond bug virtually inexistent.

I never cared at all about chromeos itself, but the very few times I actually used it, to the point of being able to do several writing college assignments with google docs on chromeos flex, I found the experience to be more than worth it. I still think that if chromeos is niche among the oses, it's even worst for blind users, and the accessibility on it is too much underestimated.

With this article and time will tell if this moment of panick I have was real or not, we very well see the end of one of the most unknown and yet quite robust screen reader on the market, chromevox with chromeos. We will get a yet unknown android desktop on this rumored new pixel laptop or whatever google decide to come with. I know very few things about android talkback as I am an ios users through and through, and even less about talkback and keyboard support. I don't know what to expect for blind users if any of this happens to be true. Will we just get a talkback on this newly modified  android and definitely lose everything about chromeos and chromevox?

google doesn't develope android x86. and also android x86 is obsolete. android 9. chromium OS is open source so as long as that exists, chrome OS is still around and considering many people in education buy chromebooks. android was ment for arm platforms and is not officially supported on intel and amd

Anyone want to use the Jenux distro and install android on an intel or amd
computer? You'll find out why it's not supported when talkback comes up
on your computer.

No way possible android 9 competes with ipad. If google were to do any of
this and for now this is only rumor it would be necessary to use android
16 for security reasons if for no others. Talkback would have to be
adjusted for a keyboard environment and the talkback tutorial would have
to be adjusted. Another possibility would be to use commentari screen
reader if it can work in a keyboard environment like the chromebook once
android gets here.
