Hi,
there's an important distinction to be made here. When editing text,
such as in Gmail or Docs, we can use shift plus arrow keys to select.
However, when we're navigating non-editable web content, these
keystrokes are not defined, which is why ChromeVox jumps in to give us
the Search+S way of doing it. Other screen readers use shift plus
arrow keys in that context as well, providing the illusion that these
are the universal keystrokes for selecting text, when in truth they
are two different scenarios, one in which you're talking to Chrome,
and one in which you're talking to ChromeVox.
