UTF-16 encoded file error

When converting a file from TextGrid to CHAT this error message has popped up: 

"CLAN can't read UTF-16 encoded files: SUB2400145_24mo.TextGrid"

I am not sure how to go about fixing this or determining what this error message means. Wondering if anyone knows?

I would love to respond to this question, but as moderator of ChiBolts, I would also like to encourage people to sign their messages, so we know how to address them in replies.
Also, when you have a problem with a specific file, it can help to attach an example of the problem file to the email so we can see the problem most clearly. In this case, it would be the TextGrid input file.

Hi,

It looks like Praat is now saving its datafile using Unicode UTF-16 encoding. CLAN expects Unicode UTF-8 encoding of text files. You can use CLAN command "cp2utf SUB2400145_24mo.TextGrid" to convert your TextGrid file to Unicode UTF-8 and then the rest of the CLAN will be able to convert your file.
