question about CLAN path via Google Drive

Hello, 

We are having trouble with syncing the path from CLAN to a Google Drive folder on one person's computer. We have had success with this on others, so we didn't think this was specifically a Google Drive issue. 

We downloaded Google Drive for the Desktop, so the person is able to access Google Drive through their startup pane. 

Here are some details about the machine and CLAN

- The PC is using Windows 11

- Lenovo Ideapad flex 5

- CLAN was downloaded on Oct 26, 2023

Dear Janet,
Google Drive file access can be tricky are various possibilities, but one comes to mind right away. When you say “syncing the path”, I think you might mean “setting working directory”. It could be that some of the files in the folder you are using as your working directory are actually owned by another person.
When you say “we have had success with this on others”, I am guessing that you mean that other applications are able to access the relevant files and edit them. In that case, it could be that the path is so long that CLAN is getting confused and also this can occur when your path name has spaces and non-ASCII characters. Take a look at the path and try to keep it as short and clear as possible and make sure that you are the owner of the folder and files.

Hi Brian, 

Thanks for this! Yup the issues were with 'setting the working directory'. I thought we had others with PCs where they were able to access Google Drive folders (even if they were not the owner), but I was mistaken and we are only able to successfully set the working directory for users who have macs. 

For PCs, we are able to set the working directory when the files and folders are owned by the user's Google Drive. However, through CLAN we're not able to see folders that are set up as shortcuts (even though we can see and access all files through shortcuts through the startup pane). Setting the working directory via shortcuts do seem to work with macs though. 

We have a workaround for now since the files are not identifiable so the user can download and work off of their desktop!
