How to get a list of all verbs in multiple transcripts after generating the .cex files?

Happy New Year to all!

I would like to identify all the verbs used in my transcripts. To do this, I have already run MOR and POST and generated .cex files. I suppose I then need to run KWAL on the .cex files (is that correct?). However, I'm not sure how to specify the part of speech that I am interested in.

Thank you in advance!

Best,

Dear Lulu,

The simplest version of the necessary command is

freq +t%mor +s"v|*" *.cha +u

This gives you all the main verbs, broken up by speakers.  If you only want the child, you would add +t*CHI.  If you also want aux, mod, and cop, then you need to add +s”aux*|” etc.

Dear Brian,

Thanks so much for the quick response!

Just to confirm - after running POST, I got a .cex file for each .cha file. But as your command suggests, I still should use the .cha files, not the .cex files. If so, what
is the use of the .cex files?

Best,
Lulu

Dear Lulu,
MOR creates .cex by default, but when I use MOR and POST, I use them in combination with the +1 switch, so that my final file is still a .cha file.  Whenever I do this, I keep copies of the directories along the way to make sure I have backups, if I make mistakes.

Dear Brian,

Somehow I typed "+l" instead of "+1" in my post command and got the .cex files. Your explanation is very helpful! Thanks so much!

Have a great weekend,
Lulu
