ORPHAN BURN MONTREAL, 2019

WHERE: "Baie des Capotes", behind Champion Park, Verdun

WHEN: Saturday, 1 September, 2019, 8:00pm - 11:30pm

--------------------
[English follows]

MONTREAL ORPHAN BURN 2019

Couldn't get to the Burn this year? Join us on Burn Night, 1 September, for a small celebration of Burner spirit here in Montreal.

We will co-create an evening of revelry -- guided by the Ten Principles. While our family and friends dance around the Man, let's gather here and share a fire also.

-- Sit around the fire, tell stories, play music, dance, create art.
-- Bring something to grill over the flames (+ long skewers) or a snack to share.
-- Playa fashions! Wear some lights, a headlamp, and fun-fur (it might get chilly).
-- Music...? Perhaps someone could bring a boombox? A guitar?
-- Fire-spinning...? We won't say no, but YOU must be responsible. Have friends keep a perimeter around you. Bring appropriate safety gear, such as wet towels, a first-aid kit, a small extinguisher. Do not wear synthetic fabrics while performing with fire.

Please stay well back from the edge of the river.

This is a LEAVE NO TRACE event. Be prepared to "pack it in, pack it out."

THINGS TO BRING:
-- A headlamp or flashlight (necessary!)
-- Some firewood (can be purchased at the Canadian Tire near Metro Lasalle).
-- A cup.
-- Food and drink.
-- Extra-Long skewers for roasting things over the fire.
-- Garbage bags for MOOP (Matter Out Of Place)
-- Mats, blankets, or camp chairs.

HOW TO GET THERE:
"Baie des Capotes" is on the river's edge, next to Champion Park, in Verdun:
-- Go to Parc Arthur-Therrien in Verdun (a 10 minute walk east from Lasalle Metro).
-- There is a parking lot next to the high school (École secondaire Monseigneur-Richard).
Go south from the parking lot, past the dog park on your left, then turn left (east) toward the river.
-- Or, from the street, walk east across the park, past the bike path, to the unpaved foot-path along the river's edge.
-- When you reach the unpaved footpath next to the river, walk north.
-- Continue north, past Champion Park -- the fenced-off dog park.
-- Follow the unpaved trail through the woods between the dog park and the river.
-- KEEP GOING, past the fire pits, until you reach a rocky point of land jutting out into the water.

BRING A FLASHLIGHT OR HEADLAMP! The forest path is dangerous after dark.

In some places the edge of the path has started to fall into the St. Lawrence River. You don't want to fall in -- the water is not nice. There is a storm drain outflow nearby, which is why the local kids call this location "Baie des capotes."

See you there!
