Hello Boxart Denizens,
Wishing all that celebrate, a very warm and festive Thanksgiving.
For the final Monday in November, 2025, we present the Aurora art that was featured on their 1956, first release of the British Royal Aircraft Factory SE-5 WWI fighter, 1/48 scale kit.
The SE-5 kit was soon updated to the SE-5A with the addition of a 4-bladed prop.
The Scout Experimental 5 (SE-5) was one of Britain's premier fighters during the Great War.
It flew for the first time in 1916 and over 5,200 of then were built.
It was armed with two machine guns.
A Vickers .303 cal MG was mounted on the forward fuselage and fired through the prop arc, a Lewis 303 machine gun was mounter on the upper wing and fired over the prop arc.
They served with several allied air forces during that period.
The original design, SE-5, had a 150 HP motor and two bladed prop.
Only 79 of them were built before the improved 200 HP, 4 bladed prop, SE-5A was developed.
I selected and formatted a dozen images of the SE-5 for your edification.
All the images are 1280 pixels.
