Hi All,
We've had good luck with a cheap webcam using VideoCapture, so I decided to upgrade to a Logitech Brio USB webcam to get better resolution/framerate. Unfortunately VideoCapture doesn't see it, although the built-in Windows 10 Camera app sees it just fine. I couldn't find any DirectShow drivers for this camera. I kind of thought that any USB webcam would work generically with VideoCapture, but apparently not. Can anyone recommend a webcam that has high resolution/framerate that definitely works with Bonsai? I'd get a Point Grey but they are out of stock for several months. Or if anyone has a clue how to get Bonsai to see the logitech Brio, that would be great.
By the way, I thought maybe cameras would show up in a drop-down menu in the VideoCapture index field, but even the cheap webcam that does work for us does not show up as any type of menu, we have to enter indexes by trial and error.
Thanks!
-Mike

Hi Mike and welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, I have never tried the Logiech Brio USB myself, so I cannot say for sure whether it is compatible, but it's really rare to find webcams that aren't. Also, just to confirm, are you using the VideoCaptureDevice node or the CameraCapture node? It's strange that you don't see the drop down menu. One possibility is that you didn't install the "Bonsai - Video Design" package which contains the dropdown editor for cameras.

In any case, if you are using VideoCaptureDevice, I would try it one last time with CameraCapture, or the other way around. Although they both can access most cameras, they use slightly different APIs, and sometimes this surprisingly makes a difference.

Let us know in any case. Did you try all Point Grey models? Usually we have success with the Flea or Grasshopper models. More recently we have added support for the more recent Blackfly models, but you have to install the Bonsai Spinnaker package.

Thanks for the quick reply Goncalo. Based on your suggestion I tried both the VideoCaptureDevice and CameraCapture. I do see the drop-down menu now for VideoCaptureDevice (I was using the other one). But neither see the Logitech Brio. Perhaps the Brio has some different API because it's a 4K camera. I will just order a different webcam. Thanks,
-Mike
