We have just received a FLIR Blackfly S USB3 camera, model BFS-U3-16S2M-CS (1.6MP, 226FPS, Sony IMX273 sensor)
Connected through a FLIR 'genuine' 3 meter USB3 cable.
Firmware: official stable latest 1707.0.125.0
Device Driver Version: PGRUSBCam3.sys: 2.7.3.249

Computer:
HP G4 (brand new)
Intel i7-8700 3.20GHz
16GB DDR4 RAM
MVME 1TB drive

OS:
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Spinnaker:
From FLIR latest x64 ver. 1.23.0.27

Bonsai:
Ver. 2.3.1
With Bonsai.Spinnaker package ver. 0.3.0 installed

I can perfectly use this camera with the SpinView program part of the Spinnaker package.

Yet, when I try using this camera with Bonsai (i.e. Source="SpinnakerCapture") I get the following
"Runtime Error":
"Spinnaker: The user memory buffer has not been initialized. [-1002]"

Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this problem ?

I have also contacted FLIR's support and I am waiting for their input also.

Thanks in advance to all on any idea

Hi Robert,

I can confirm that my BFS-U3-13Y3C-C works in Bonsai.Spinnaker 0.3.0 using SpinView version 1.20.0.15, but crashes with the error message you indicated in the latest Spinnaker 1.23.0.27.

To correct this, I have now updated the Bonsai.Spinnaker to version 0.4.0, updating the dependencies to use the new SpinView DLLs and it works again.

However, this is really bad news, as it seems FLIR does not guarantee backwards compatibility even within minor version upgrades. This means that anytime they decide to upgrade their software version, crashes might happen. Furthermore, there is also the significant possibility that older systems that upgrade to the new Bonsai package will crash, and will require upgrading their Spinnaker drivers as well.

This was definitely not the case in the old FlyCapture drivers, where all versions were backwards compatible. If you get the chance, feel free to convey this feedback to the Spinnaker development team, but I guess there is not much we can do.

Hope this helps.

Hello

That was great! Thank you very much

I updated Bonsai.Spinnaker to the new 0.4.0 ver. and that solved the problem right away.

Indeed what you wrote is of great concern and I will forward this information to FLIR. I will post their answer regarding this issue.

Best,
Robert.

Hi Goncalo,

Apparently updating the Bonsai.Spinnaker from 0.3.0 to 0.4.0 makes the program crash for whoever is still using SpinView version 1.20.0.15.

Luckily I found this thread and, based on this,  updated SpinView to 1.23.0.27; now it works again.

Yes, this was exactly the fear I pointed out.
Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done on Bonsai side, this is entirely an issue with Spinnaker drivers, as they have broken backwards compatibility with their own drivers.
