Hi Guys,

I am trying to install BBB 1.0 on a Ubunutu 14 - 64 bit sever. Followed the clear directions you have put together (thank you very much) but have the following error when entering sudo bbb-conf --clean:

/usr/bin/bbb-conf: line 61: /etc/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton-release: No such file or directory
# Nginx: BigBlueButton appears to be disabled
         - no symbolic link in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton to /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton
cat: /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton: No such file or directory
# Tried to check server_name in
#    /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton
# but value is empty.

What am I missing please?

Thank you

Hi Kay,

Did you get any errors during the installation?  Can you post the output of

  dpkg -l | grep bbb

Hi Kay,

You can fix the first error with the command

  sudo ln -s  /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton  /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton

But the second error is strange.   On a test server, we can do

~# ls -al /etc/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton-release
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 32 Aug 15 11:16 /etc/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton-release

Furthermore, the file

   /etc/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton-release

is installed by the package bbb-config, but it appears your package is installed.  Can you do this

  sudo apt-get purge bbb-config
  sudo apt-get install bigbluebutton

To see if re-installing will get you that file.

Hi Fred,

Did as instructed... files were downloaded. I did a check (sudo bbb-conf --check ) and got this error:

Hi,

Can you try the command

  sudo ln -s  /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton  /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton

again and let us know if it gives you an error.  After you do the above, you should see the following output from the command `ls -al /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton `.

$ ls -al /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 40 Sep 19 22:03 /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton -> /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton

Hi Kay

Hmm .. something is not correct.  You are unable to create the file because it exists, but bbb-conf check says it doesn't exist.

> # Nginx: BigBlueButton appears to be disabled
>         - no symbolic link in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton to /etc/nginx/sites-available/bigbluebutton

Both can't be true :-)

Can you post the output of

ls -al /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton
ls -al /etc/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton-release

Cool.   Can you share with others what was causing the issue?  It could help save time with someone else facing a similar problem.

Hi Ivos,

You've already posted this message in this thread

There is no need to double post.  It doesn't get you an answer any quicker, and it causes more work for those helping others as they have to respond to multiple posts.

Hi Abdishakur,

It looks like there is some dependencies in `bbb-conf --clean` for tomcat7 when it is not installed.  If you ignore these errors, does BigBlueButton still run for you?

Hi abdishakur,

> CPU cores: 2

Your server is too underpowered.  BigBlueButton requires (at least) a server with 4 CPU cores, see Minimum server requirements

You need to install on a server that meets (or exceeds) the above requirements?  These requirements are not optional -- BigBlueButton will simply not install/run correctly and fail in random ways.

Hi Abdishakur,

> after i install bbb in fresh ubuntu server

How did you install BigBlueButton (through the installation steps or bbb-install.sh)?  Did you also install Greenlight?

For the admin capabilities of Greenlight, see

Greenlight is a Ruby on Rails application.   Are you a developer?  If so, you can customize it to your needs.  See
