Hi there,

I got notified by a user that it is not possible on ubuntu 20 using
wayland instead of xorg to share individual windows. In the screen
sharing all started applications are missing. It is an empty list.

Is this a common problem ? and what is the solution ?

regards
Reimar

Browsers have had some occasional problems with screen capturing in Wayland since they shipped it.
In fact, if I'm not mistaken, Firefox only shipped screen capture in Wayland ~1 year ago.

What's the browser, Chrome or Firefox? I recommend reproducing here: https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/getdisplaymedia/.
If it has the same problem, recommend finding out which browser is that and then searching
Bugzilla or Chromium's Monorail for existing issues. If there aren't, I recommend opening one.
I don't have a Wayland-enabled box to reproduce it (don't intend to install one either).

A workaround that used to work sometime ago was to minimize and restore the target application a few times (finally leaving
it in a restored state). Browser's would, sometimes, pick it up.

when changing the client from settings to use different language, some
items are not localized (attached)

However, it is localized in 2.2.35

"Ubuntu 20" isn'ta release - is it Ubuntu 20.04 or Ubuntu 20.10?
They're quite different.

Under Wayland, screensharing is handled by components that are part of
the operating system. Gnome shell is responsible for capturing the
screen or window, Pipewire is used to connect that to Firefox, and xdg-
desktop-portal (and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk) is responsible for the UI
popup that's used to select the monitor or window to share.

The ability to share a single window was only added very recently, and
it's possible that the version of the distribution being used doesn't
have everything hooked up for it to work.

Worst case, on the login screen there should be an options (gear) menu
that can be used to switch to an X11 session, where the browser's built
in screenshare with window support can be used.
