How to filter transactions from an OFX file?

I am using the ofx.Importer to ingest OFX files from my bank. It works great except that my bank adds some transactions such as initial, final and partial balances to the OFX file.

How can I filter these out? A simple bash filtering would do if this was a CSV file, but it is a bit more error prone with OFX.

Clone the OFX importer and hack it to add what you need.
It's only there intended as an example, I have no intention to turn it
into a full-fledged OFX importer that supports the myriad features and
variants of interpretations.
