Hi all,
I thought this should be in separate email chain.

Regarding the possibility of an online meeting this summer, I believe in the meeting I volunteered to spearhead it.
I assume we can go ahead more or less independently of APT&M if we want, but I think it would be helpful to interface with Oxford to email attendees to advertise (if this is possible).

We originally discussed a mixture of recorded sessions ("headline" speakers from different groups around the world discussing computational techniques and approaches), with some live Q&A discussion. The "flash talk" format, with videos spliced together and group questions at the end, also seemed like a good inclusion.
In my recent experience with live Q&A, having a panel, allowing people to write in questions (via chat) and having a chair pose those questions in-turn - worked quite well.
I'm imaging the Q&A would follow one or more presentations from the TC, for example:
  • intro to the TC - to present who we are, what we do & have done
  • something on FAIR(?) I could arrange for my colleague who is an expert to present something
  • Do the hashing and data format projects deserve their own presentations?
I'm thinking each of these would less than 30 mins, then with time for Q&A.

On the practicality, how/who will host this? I'm aware for platforms like zoom a licence is required for a large audience. Perhaps someone in the TC could host on our behalf?

Any thoughts on the above?

Andy

Hi All,

Thanks for your patience with my response.

At this point I believe we can now start organising the online workshop.
Andy if you are able to make some initial directions into this, it
would be most appreciated.

Can I suggest a short meeting next week to discuss the particulars?

From Andy's email:
>> * intro to the TC - to present who we are, what we do & have done
>> * something on FAIR(?) I could arrange for my colleague who is an
>> expert to present something
>> * Do the hashing and data format projects deserve their own
presentations?

I think we can merge the first and last point together, and discuss the
draft standard as well, which I think is nearly ready for use. Having
the draft "neatly tied up" will help us to be able to plan for the next
stages of standardisation.

If we can at this point start proposing some topics, with matching names
for speakers, that would be a good start.

I'd also like to gauge how long we should aim for. I'm aware that having
a range of timezones may make the work difficult for some, so we should
arrange with that in mind - differing timezones may slip in and out of
comfortable hours. I'd hazard our primary audience is in the
mid-to-eastern US, followed by Europe, then China/Japan/Aus timezones.
This would imply something like 1pm UTC as a potential start time?

Thanks,

Daniel

Dear Daniel and APT TC team,

Thank you for pushing this forward.
>> I am available for a possible planning meetings next week
(on the 15th or 16th I am available only in the evening), the
other days I am free.
>> 1pm UTC reads like a reasonable start
>> Format: how long do we plan for (two hours, half day, or more?)
>> Topics: gluing the first and last entry together is okay, the
>> HDF5 standard should get an own slot I agree, FAIR should get
an own slot, I appreciate a wide spectrum of speakers, so @Andy:
have at least one slot for your FAIR contact, I am interested in giving a talk
>> Either on FAIR or, even better on : "Avoid reimplementing the wheel: On Minimum
and Easy to Use Standards for Storing Data and Metadata for Common APT Data Analysis Methods"

Bests,
Markus
