Good Sunday evening yall. I have a curious braille question concerning Apple Books. When reading using a Brailliant Bx40, braille display, and IOS 17.2, when I read a book in apple Books, the display periodically shows a message that says actions Available. Then the text keeps resuming. This doesn't occur on an IPad Air running latest IOS as well, but it happens on an IPhone 14 ProMax. Is there a way to turn this off? I'm strongly thinking of using Books instead of Kindle but this is a definite deterrent for me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,

Go into settings, accessibility, VoiceOver, verbosity, and find the actions button and change it to nothing. That will get rid of the “Actions available” message displayed.

Jenny, thank you so much, that did it. I can't believe I never knew that fix. I have fought a good bit with this and this definitely solved it. Now, I'm curious, as a follow-up for you and anyone else that might want to chime in. What do you, and the rest of the list prefer and use. Kindle, or Apple Books or both. Thanks, and again I appreciate the fix.

Hi Tim.
Go to settings>Accessibility>VoiceOver>Verbocity>Actions. From there,
you can turn this notification off altogether or also have it speak
only when new actions are available. If you want to be able to be
notified of actions in other apps, but not Books, you could also set
up a VoiceOver Activity for this I believe.

I hope this helps,
Scott

Hey Scott, that worked like a charm. Thank you so much for that. I knew there had to be a way but I figured I was missing something, and that was it. Lol. Now, I'm curious about something. What does everybody else use, being this is an Apple list, does everybody prefer Ale Books over say, Kindle, or visa versa. Just a curiosity. I like and use both, my library is predominantly Kindle but I'm considering making the full switch, but was just curious. Thanks again for the help and take care.

Well I read Apple Books on the Mac using voice over. I’ve not had much success using the orbit pared with the Mac. Still I’ve now got a piece of soft ware that can transcribe ebooks and text files in to BRF the format the orbit uses so if I ever got my hands on the apple book text files or kindle files I’d be well away. I have downloaded a load of ebooks from a media sharing group so I’m fine at the moment. I even bought an amazon fire tablet to try to get this going but never got all that far. Love emma

You buy them. If you have an apple devise it comes as part of it. If you are using voice over on your apple devise you will be able to read them and they will appear on your braille devise if you have it pared with your apple devise. Love emma

BARBARA, it's a part of IOs, and is normally already on your phone, but you have to buy the books, and pair your braille display with your phone. THERE are some books that are free, they have a section in the store that highlights free books, but you have to buy the majority of them. It's like Amazon's Kindle, only it's native to IOS and the phones, IPads, Macs, etc. Thanks Emma for helping me see that, I didn't notice the question earlier. I was just curious what everybody else used, Lol. Thanks, and hope everybody is having a good morning. Ake care.
